This, by a US Guardian columnist, is provocativ.
It led me to wonder if opinion pieces are followed by a counter-argument. Apparently sometimes they do. Sometimes isn't enough.
The Guardian has a pro-trans bias, mainly for the benefit of its American readership.

Boris Johnson hasn't been in the news for a while. Has he had any more children?
Data centres are being built to satisfy the anticipated high demand for AI, which isn't necessarily for constructive purposes.
We're already consuming energy here on social media and through our online activity in general.
Thoughtless profligacy has consequences.
It might benefit people but not the environment and other species.
Huge solar farms also have disadvantages, some more than others. They should never be built on agricultural land and even when not they generate heat that cancels out the benefit.
I just heard that over the weekend Trump tried to access the nuclear codes and had to stopped by the generals. Ooooh shit! It's 25th Amendment time! Calling Dr. Strangelove! Where's Slim Pickens when you need him.
We were already heading for a food crisis before what's happening in the Middle East exacerbated it. A heavy reliance on nitrogen fertilisers and heavy machinery post-war has led to soil degradation. Regeneration has hardly begun.
What I don't understand is why relatively fair-skinned people with some dark-skinned ancestry are called black, while those with middling skin tones with white ancestors aren't called white.
There seems to be degrees of blackness but not of whiteness.
She has unsurprisingly received sizable donations from individuals and companies who favour drilling, but without admitting that it won't benefit the average consumer.
Multiple oil spills are visible from space after Iranian and US-Israeli strikes hit oil facilities and ships in the region, with experts warning of an impending environmental catastrophe. https://cnn.it/3Ovxzwk
Just read that he's gone to work in Australia, so he's their problem now.
Not surprised.
Just read that José Antonio Morante de la Puebla, a bull fighter whose comeback from retirement in Seville attracted huge crowds, was seriously injured after a bull’s horn perforated his rectum.
Only what he deserved IMO.
This is an interesting example of how social trends develop. I think I was the first non-religious celebrant in my area in 1991, when some local clergy seemed to think I was practising devil worship. There was similar resistance to cremation when it started in 1885.

Political party membership has declined so there's a smaller pool of candidates. They're selected by small groups of ideologues. It's difficult to see how we can improve the calibre of our politicians without changing the system.
Pendulum politics is bound to fail and the electorate needs education.
Republicans can no longer deny the depth of the president’s cognitive decline and should act for the good of the party, wrote Matthew Parris in The Times
Trouble is, the party has many equally bonkers people who aren't in decline.
And he put so much effort into gaining the Labour leadership.
He desperately wanted the job.
3/3 And for the benefit of any trans believers who might want to pick a fight with me, please don't bother.
Yes, "trans people" exist. It simply means they're alive.
Pronouns are parts of speech. It's ungrammatical to use them any other way.
No one can change their sex.
Genders are performative.
2/3 While women can defend ourselves, and do, the same isn't true of children.
They're vulnerable to the suggestion that they were born the wrong sex by trans adults seeking validation for their beliefs.
That's why the protection of children is even more important than the above.
Please share.
1/3 This is for anyone who still doesn't understand the law on single-sex spaces or that discrimination can be positive as well as negative.
I don't believe any of my male friends would consider intruding into a women's single-sex space. My father wouldn't have understood it.
Cont'd...
Just reduced my Octopus Direct Debit. I was paying too much. Isn't insulation a wonderful thing?
It obviously needed to ripen a little.
My doctor's receptionists aren't old; they're in their prime.
Euw!
A photograph of the face of an attractive young woman with long blonde hair, over text that says "Meet Emma, the AI receptionist stopping you from making GP appointments".
Nope. She's actually a bunch of wires and things, with absolutely no sex appeal.
No one has ever had permission to be a refugee.
There's no point revising the constitution after fools are elected. The electoral system needs changing so that fools can't be elected.
And warmongering should be illegal.
Very many people would benefit from thinking, silently.
"Many people would sooner die than think. In fact, they do so."
