Happy days then!
Douglas Adams nicked the bit about space being big for 'The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy' and I have long argued that the cut from the hawk to the Spitfire at the start of 'A Canterbury Tale' inspired the transition from the bone to the spaceship in Kubrick's '2001-A Space Odyssey'.
Unfortunately we are just at the foothills of the mountain that is the climate emergency but I get your point sir (Also great promo photo from one of my favourite films!). #r4today
The climate emergency must have been solved since #r4today presenters don't mention anything about it in the headlines anymore. I breath a huge sigh of relief to know that we can just get back to hearing about endless stories about Paddington the Bear from Nick Robinson et al.
Like a stopped clock he can be right at times but it doesn't mean he is any good at his job. #r4today
Better and more honest analysis from a comedian of the Trump administration's Iran 'policies' than you get from Justin Webb and the #Americast crew www.youtube.com/watch?v=23xU... I find that rather worrying!
I must pay tribute again to the wonderful organisation of The Myddle Muddle 10k on Sunday. A particular shout-out to one of the volunteers (Sophie) who gave this old bloke a lift to his hotel. A great day but I won't try to run up Harmer Hill ever again!
The moral, ethical and monetary corruption of the Trump administration has been clear since The Toddler first set foot in The White House www.ms.now/rachel-maddo... However the current crew of #Americast apparently didn't see what was right in front of them until now.
How can one corrupt something that was already completely and utterly corrupt? www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/... Have the editors and presenters of #Americast been living in a cave since The Toddler returned to The White House?
Will the history of Elizabeth the Second include how she helped ward off a lawsuit against Andrew by paying off Virginia Giuffre? #r4today
All the damage of a world war without (much of) the fighting? Though collapsing economies will bring us more violence as well.
Tesla saved $400 million on its federal taxes by shifting billions of its U.S. profits to countries with lower tax rates.
Yes: While you paid your taxes in full, giant corporations maneuvered to pay as little as possible — and it’s all perfectly legal for them.
The system is rigged.
"Attempting to demolish" isn't neutral language.
While Justin Webb believes that Trump is 'making America normal again' I would argue that this ex-president and mayor are making America normal by engaging with these wonderful kids. www.youtube.com/watch?v=jYie... #Americast
Many thanks to the organisers and volunteers at the Myddle Muddle 10k this morning. Excellent and friendly all.
When British journalists were hacking phones on a massive basis the BBC generally accepted the laughable claims of Murdoch et al that they knew nothing about it. #bbclaurak
All will be fine for your lot John.
People keep reporting Trump as if he were a rational actor. Why? #bbcpm
Staggering that Voyager 1 is still producing results after nearly 50 years in space. Congratulations to the designers and engineers for their magnificent work.
The BBC 'In Our Time ' episode about this from a few weeks ago was excellent.
As @driftglass.bsky.social has been warning about for decades-It is the base of the GOP that is the danger www.cnn.com/2026/04/18/p...
Nostalgia for the past-I remember one of my sister's friends being thrown down the stairs by her husband in the early 1970s and the police refusing to get involved because it was 'just a domestic'. The good old days never existed-Unless of course you wanted to beat up women with impunity.
Those rabbiting on about the good old days might consider the words of my long-gone friend 'Manny' Agalamanyi who used to recount being beaten up or being threatened for being black and getting on 'the wrong bus' in Liverpool during the 1960s. A great (but very annoying at times!) wonderful man.
Well worth a watch-I think I first saw it in the 1970s (I'm old!).
Meanwhile Israel happily slaughters aid workers in #Gaza to their heart’s content as the world’s attention is diverted. #WarCrimes #r4today
I know it wasn't A.I. (Yes-I know it was fiction!) that did them in but the fate of the Krell in the film 'Forbidden Planet' might give us a lesson in what happens when overwhelming power is granted to a society without anybody understanding the ultimate consequences of what might happen. #r4today
If the history of reporting on the climate emergency is ever written then #r4today editors and presenters might well 'merit' a place for their downplaying and apparent ignorance regarding the issue of the age.
