NEW ANALYSIS: My new article in @natenergy.nature.com argues Europe keeps responding to energy crises by changing supplier.

95% of EU oil and 88% of gas was imported in 2024.

The structural fix: reduce fossil fuel demand through electrification and efficiency.

Insane timing, insane takes, but women, regardless of age, must always be turned into the enemy in a world of himpathy.

It's a pattern, just remember the "organised gangs of wine moms" we learned about following ICE aggression and violence.

There is no such thing as ‘right-wing populism’: Reclaiming the emancipatory potential of populism in reactionary times | European Journal of Political Research | Cambridge Core There is no such thing as ‘right-wing populism’: Reclaiming the emancipatory potential of populism in reactionary times

🚨New article🚨

What if the misguided construction of 'right-wing populism' has prevented us from holding the elite accountable and rejuvenate democracy?

This is what @alexyates2000.bsky.social and I explore in our new article: 'There is no such thing as ‘right-wing populism’'

Survey research is often interpreted as showing that belief in conspiracy theories can be surprisingly widespread, including belief in conspiracy theories that would be astonishing if true. For example, in The Atlantic we learn that “12 million Americans believe lizard people run our country”

Unequal treatment perceptions and rural backlashes against carbon taxation | European Journal of Political Research | Cambridge Core Unequal treatment perceptions and rural backlashes against carbon taxation

New article out in @ejprjournal.bsky.social:

Why do we see such strong backlashes against carbon taxes in rural areas? We find that when rural residents feel disadvantaged by the state, a carbon tax feels like a punishment on top of a punishment: a "double disadvantage."

Still in 2025, some political scientists argued that we should not misinterpret Trump's illiberal policies as undemocratic. Some continue to say the same about the European far right. It's time to understand that racism, misogynie, anti-queerness are building blocks of authoritarianism. 1/

Popular attitudes are often seen as a safeguard against democratic backsliding: if citizens don’t oppose lib democracy, politicians have little incentive to erode it.

In @cpsjournal.bsky.social I argue that, while intuitive, this reasoning conflates two states of the world:

Students tell us they use AI because it makes their writing better, cleaner, more likely to get an A. But it also makes it empty. LLMs like ChatGPT generate, by design, the most likely ideas and sentences. It is, by definition, impersonal and unoriginal.
