Texas’ maternal mortality committee faces backlash for not reviewing deaths from first two years post-Dobbs Committee members said it was necessary to skip the two years after Texas passed its restrictive abortion laws to offer more timely recommendations.

On Friday, Texas’ maternal mortality committee defended its decision to not fully review 2022, 2023 deaths as necessary to offer timely recommendations.

At times speaking through tears, mothers and doctors implored the committee to change course.
