In Milwaukee, you can request the city install a bike rack. I know of at least four spots in the city who have bike racks because I requested them!

Status report, “Lunchtime Confusion, or How To Do ‘Technobabble’ Lesson” dep’t: …So this has to be a thing that happens to other people with similar developmental issues. …If you’re raised on one side of the Atlantic and live on the other, seems likely this might come up. (1/n)

I therefore went to hit the Greek words for “continent”, “utensil”, and “confusion”. …And this is why I will heretofore be referring to this issue as “ipeirogenetic skevioataxia.” …And if you have alternatives? *Knock yourselves out.” 😄 (7/7)

Beautiful graphic with the text "The Biggest Week presents Birder Prom sponsored by Birds and Blooms, featuring performing artist and birder Bonner Black!" The graphic shows two birds anthropomorphized into human body shapes, with a Cerulean Warbler in a blue dress and a Blackburnian Warbler in a suit.

Obsessed with the unintentionally(?) queer illustration for birder prom that has both species in male-type plumage. A female Cerulean Warbler would be more yellow-blue than that pure soft blue, and the beautiful orange is a male Blackburnian Warbler.

like 200% more likely to participate now

A day photo of rock formations with, I think, Cheyenne mountain, in the background. Brush/shrubs in the foreground. A Canada goose is perched on the top of one of the lower rock formations almost in the center of the frame.

The Canada goose in question, from photo 1. It's not good lighting but that's the goose.

Went to Garden of the Gods, Colorado Springs this morning and the Canada geese were in unusual spots maybe getting ready to nest? It was fun spotting them, way up in the red rocks, here a couple of examples.

Meme that shows a skeleton lifting weights, with the format: "my body is a machine that turns blank into blank" I've edited it so it says "my patch birding obsession is a machine that turns middling urban parks into hotspots loaded with rare bird reports"

When I moved to the edge of a 0.4 acre urban park, my goal was getting the eBird hotspot to 100 species (up from 92). It took me a few months, but the park's now at 112 species and I've personally seen 102 of them.

Editor’s note: If you plan to solve the Sunday Crossword in this week’s New York Times Magazine, you will find that the answers will not fit. After the issue had already been printed, we discovered that there was an error with the solvable grid of the Sunday Crossword. A corrected version of the puzzle can be found on Page 25 of Sunday’s daily New York Times. We sincerely apologize for the confusion.

Just a little reminder that security experts routinely say that biometrics are actually do very poorly as a security measure.

Not just for technical reasons, either.

Imagine a password that you can't change after being informed it was compromised in a hack on a company that forgot to encrypt shit.

American Coots have started arriving and… good thing those giant, lobed feet are also pretty decent snowshoes 😂
