Denton Mateychuk was completely awesome tonight.

A bittersweet final thread. The game hardly matters and has already been overshadowed by a Bowness tirade.

Just going to dump the rest of the charts

It's really more of the same. Werenski made plays but they weren't direct offensive ones. This game was a lot of below dots work.

There were minor tweaks but the in-zone identity looked much more like last season's.

Marchment, Coyle, Heinen, Sillinger, Jenner, Johnson with some big performances ofensively. Just couldn't find the finish.

Forward lines got switched up in the third, didn't offer much of a spark outside of the Heinen-Coyle connection which went a little crazy.

Not a fantastic effort from the top line though Fantilli did add a spark with a goal.

Kent Johnson was noticeable but some big chances came from Danton Heinen and Coyle.

I will not mention that defenseman or I will get in trouble.

Kent Johnson's first two periods worked him out of the doghouse finally!

Werenski played 30 and you could have convinced me it was more.

The Blue Jackets got a ton of cycle chances, and some good forecheck chances too, but really had their rush neutered by Boston's NZ structure. They gave up some big rush plays the other way.

The Blue Jackets put up some numbers but their season is eligible for elimination on Monday.

If you want a poetic message to send to the FO, perhaps getting lit up by Sean Kuraly and Jordan Harris is at least a good one.

Coyle and Sillinger with some big danger, Sillinger especially at the net.

Jenner with a ton of walk-in chances, at least one of which was a wraparound that he made at least a little interesting.

Demidov and Hutson most dangerous off-pass creators for Montreal.

Lots of dangerous peaks and off-pass danger from the depth. Coyle, Jenner, Sillinger, Monahan, Garland and Johnson.

Fantilli and Marchenko were okay at evens, Marchenko massive on special teams.

Lane Huston is a very good playmaker.

3-4-83 was topsy turvy. Not what you want to see out of Coyle but he scored.

91-11-23 had a really bad garbage time shift. Perhaps has something to do with Gudbranson's uniquely bad performance.

I do not have words to describe how poor Gudrbranson's chance-share is in a game where CBJ otherwise dominated.

This top line is really weird but Jenner-Marchment are playing well.

Second pair is back to being very chance dominant, excellent to see.

Jake Christiansen with hardly any ice-time. Kent Johnson and Miles Wood also the two on the outs.

Hutson played gargantuan special teams minutes.

The first period was simply the best neutral zone re-entry game from Montreal that we've seen this side of Vegas and Florida on their cup runs. CBJ puck management on exits, especially by certain players, was dreadful.

CBJ created some big rush chances though.

The Blue Jackets keep their season alive.

A miserable first period followed by dominant 2nd and 3rd give the Blue Jackets a rather large and comprehensive domination. Open play, special teams, goals, shot attempts and that's even with 1 called off.

Top offensive players really struggled that goes from Fantilli, who I thought looked like one of the few coherent players on the ice, down to Werenski. Credit Sabres' D maybe.

Not much controlled offense off of CBJ sticks. Meanwhile, Doan, Benson and Quinn created some big chances. Wood and Jenner stuffed some pads really good.

Really bizarre line construction. Bowness has a line construction philosophy and I don't think it's a good one. Maybe I'll understand when I'm 80

Zach Werenski had an off day which means the Blue Jackets had nothing going. They struggle to create legitimate threat off the rush.

Rick Bowness still hates Kent Johnson. Not much news there though.

The line blender this game was outrageous. He always gets a little lost post special teams but it seemed to just keep going and going. Only 3 lines played more than 3 minutes together.

I think the public xG belies Sabres' chance quality. They were in control and routinely created threatening chances. Jet Greaves probably wants to make some of those stops but I don't think the Blue Jackets should be happy with their offensive effort.

The Blue Jackets got frozen off of the scoresheet. They had the puck a lot but didn't make much of it. Most of their chances come from empty net shooting and net-front.

They controlled territory but had no clue how to turn it into offense.

Marchment created the best look for the opening goal. Werenski's presence is imposible to ignore and Jenner really got to the slot.

Netfront domination from Jenner and Monahan. Massive setups there from Ivan Provorov and a volume from Zach Werenski that feels superhuman.

Alex Debrincat was absolutely everywhere.

Completely chaotic game in all directions. Heinen-Jenner-Monahan got some very big netfront chances.

Gudbranson struggles, Werenski and Provorov were on the ice for a lot of offense.

Zach Werenski played 33 minutes.

Bowness mixed up the lines but did his best to make sure Kent Johnson didn't play too many minutes. Monahan, though he started on the fourth line, took many of his shifts on the wing.

The Blue Jackets got some pretty massive chances off of rebounds and in-zone. I think we would downgrade some of them if we had better data.

Some big forechecking from both teams but the neutral zone was flowing in pretty much one direction.
