My first player was a gen 2 Fiio X1, then I was a Hiby fan for a couple devices (R3 and R6, both gen 1) before coming back to Fiio on this one. The big selling points for me were Android 13, Snapdragon 680 processor, and clean hardware design - Hiby's recent offerings look too flashy for my taste.

This is a Fiio M33 R2R. I don't know that I hear a huge difference between the resistor ladder and delta sigma DACs, but it is pleasant to use and listen to.

I'm big into the tactile experience of physical controls and listening without distractions, so I've had a few DAPs over the years.

This is total overkill for my main use case of listening on flights, but dang, it's nice having enough power to drive my planars at home. Plus it's so much easier to get immersed in listening when the latest software isn't struggling to run on a processor from 2017.

Raise at work + tax refund deposit + spousal approval finally got me to upgrade my music player.
My old one still got the job done and sounded great, but it's almost 10 years old (!), so the UI is slow and I've already replaced the swollen battery and epoxied the cracked back glass together twice.

Saw her at Madison Square Garden a couple weeks ago. So good, but definitely felt like we were the oldest people there.

I just hope that rollable display technology will one day get to the point where we can have TVs that adjust to fit the aspect ratio of the content without letter- or pillarboxing. bonus points for dynamic adjustment on those films where the director uses different ratios for creative effect.

This has helped me rediscover so much of our collection. Absolutely worth the friction and expense of migrating from Jellyfin to Emby. FOSS is great, but some things are worth paying for.

I've got this VirtualTV plugin on my media server which programs content based on rules I set up for each "channel." No endless scrolling the library to decide what to watch, and since it all plays continuously, I get to stumble into shows and movies already in progress - just like the olden days!

Proposal: Trans Day of Invisibility where trans people can just go and rob banks and blow up data centers and we all go "we didn't see anything."
