Pompey/Neesy, a grey cat with yellow-green eyes, looking very silly in the hammock of a grey cat tree, limbs everywhere.

Neesy/Pompey on his cat tree looking marginally less silly. but still pretty silly.

what a guy

starting to suspect Pompey (née Neesy) is younger than we originally thought. This guy’s ears and paws are almost comically too big for him.

Eugh this looked a lot more vibrant on my tablet… something more like this

(sorry to creep but a) this is awesome and b) you are completely correct)

also we like M names for tabbies and he is a stealth tabby!!

so pompey minimus joins mercutio and mephistopheles.

it is going to make me actually clear off the top of the downstairs tree we started using as convenient storage 🫣

(it’s a very tall one so there are other high platforms but… yeah I suspect it would help.)

side note: we are frustratingly aware that the actual reverso name would be Pompey Parvus… but consider, Pompey Minimus is way funnier and sounds better to boot.

big thanks to @rhgarner.bsky.social - we are still getting a second cat tree for more Up options but your advice made me realize I should try visits when they were already in their preferred up-ish spot.

Nobody bristles or vocalizes unless he tries to get up on the bed with them, and they can take their eyes off each other now. Sometimes we even play a bit. Everybody’s chill enough, even after dust ups, to accept cuddles.

We might be making process on the cat integration!! Neesy (now renamed Pompey Minimus) can now be in the other cats’ main room as long as he stays on the floor and doesn’t try to get on the bed where they’ve taken to hanging out. Supervised visits only, but I’ll take it.

Thank you! 🥺

we got off very lucky, and all because we check our crawlspace twice a year AND that pipe happens to be right at the crawlspace entrance

5 days ago 1 0 0 0

turns out the builders half-assed a pipe connection angle and it put strain on the pipe for the last 15 years and finally caused a crack.

the kitchen sink saga is almost over!! water mitigation got access to where the leak was (mostly, it’s complicated) and found very limited damage, nothing that needs replacing. plumber is here now and has identified the root cause of the leak, easy fix.

Yeah I essentially need to draft in 20-45 minutes every day, with SOME time outside of that available for sustained brainstorming and research. It’s rough! Last book and this one I’ve managed to set aside some “retreat” days but it’s just a bandaid.

this thought brought to you by “the doldrums of drafting” and accidentally seeing a review I wasn’t prepared for

6 days ago 16 0 1 0

woof, sometimes I just… do not feel smart enough to write books, and also wonder how different my books would be if I could actually spend a full time job’s worth of space and time on them.

6 days ago 44 0 5 2

There’s an en suite bathroom in their preferred bedroom that we could gate off but it’s also where their litter boxes and food usually are, so I suspect that would be provoking.

Ooh, that’s a good point. Thank you!

alas, Neesy is somewhere on the wants to play but has bad manners-to-aggression spectrum. They’ll leave him alone but he will charge them. Doesn’t attack but refuses to back down when they make it clear they don’t want him there.

6 days ago 1 0 1 0

so it’s less about wanting to rush it and more wondering what the next step is. We tried Neesy in a carrier but they won’t come close. We tried gate, and it worked for the three hours before Neesy figured out how to scale it, but I think Bigger Gate is promising.

We’re in a holding pattern where the resident cats hide under the bed most of the day :( we let Neesy out in the rest of the house (not their space) during some of the day, and they get free reign (but not his room) the rest of the time. None are interested in through the door sniffs.

6 days ago 1 0 1 0

I’ll keep an eye out for a moment like this! Right now Neesy is fully in the teenage “I never need to sleep again” phase but he has to sleep sometime…

6 days ago 2 0 0 0

Yeah I’m thinking the extra tall gate is the move. Neesy can scale our standard gate, it’s really impressive!

Already done :(

(this is half the reason for fewer Neesy posts; the other half is a combo of the water damage repair + starting the first draft of a new book)

Does anybody have tips for cat integration when the resident cats are too anxious and shy to interact through the door or other indirect ways, and one Mr Neesy wants to rumble at all times?
