Two taxis and a cyclist following a tram with elevated platforms on either side on Via Arenula, Roma
In Roma, taxis drive on the separated tram tracks. This section of Via Arenula is one way inbound with a bidirectional tram tracks separated by an elevated curb/platform. When traveling outbound on a bike, the only option is to ride between the tracks, between two taxis. Not fun. Do not recommend.
No need to decipher complicated daily/seasonal bus schedule charts. This bus stop sign with LCD display shows the actual time of the next bus. Firenze, Italy. Yes, please!
This street in Florence is open to people and closed to cars. In the evening, it is absolutely packed with foot traffic. In the early morning, vehicles carefully navigate the commuter foot traffic as they deliver the day's supplies.
Bicycle markings along the main promenade to the central train station in Pisa. There is a slight texture difference on the stone surface to designate the bicycle zone. Pisa was a surprising bicycle haven.
It's tree pruning season in Rome. My gut response to this practice is visceral.

Three wheeled light utility vehicle.
Love these little three-wheeled light utility vehicles in Italy. They are essentially a Vespa with a flat bed on the back. Seen here in Roma, but also very common in the countryside.
Narrow sidewalk with light poles in the middle.
Electric scooters parked on a narrow sidewalk.
This is a sidewalk in Monteverde in Roma. Most people walk in the street.

Battery replacement and servicing scooters by cargo bike. Rome, Italy.
Street cleaners in Rome working around parked cars. A cantilever sprayer hinges from the top of the vehicle and a worker sprays the leaves and debris from under the parked cars. I hope they are also getting the dog poop from the sidewalk, because Italians tend to not clean up after their dogs.
The ancient structures in Rome create natural points of restriction. Here at Porta San Pancrazio in Monteverde, three roads come together to squeeze around this arch and a gap in the Aurelian wall. If they exist, lane markings are just a suggestion. The motorinos squeeze between the cars.
Ghost bike in Rome with the Forum in the background.
Ghost bike in Rome, with the ruins of the ancient Forum in the background. It reads, "In ricordo di Eva, uccisa a 28 anni da un automobilista che sapeva correre." Translation: In memory of Eva, killed at the age of 28 by a driver who knew how to race.
2 wheel parking in Rome vs. Florence.
Cycling in Torino. It's beautiful in the city center, a little stressful outside but supported with infrastructure on the arterial roads. Mind the tram tracks.
