The May/June issue of Skeptical Inquirer is out!

Your homework: Take a photo while holding the new issue in front of something that you believe warrants more critical thinking. Post it on social media, and we may include your photo in a future issue of the magazine.

What the hell happened to the chupacabra? The chupacabra is a shapeshifter, changing its appearance according to the time and place it’s seen, and according to the beliefs of those who see it.

From the archives: remember when the Chupacabra was a fun, scaly, alien-looking beast? Why is it a mangy dog now?! @skepticalinquirer.bsky.social's Ben Radford takes a look, through the lens of @ahoycomicmags.bsky.social's "Project: Cryptid." @alisakwitney.bsky.social @stephenhupp.bsky.social

A square, brass instrument with multiple blades.

A square, brass instrument with multiple blades.

Bloodletting with "scarificator," 19th century.

This instrument with spring-loaded blades delivered many cuts simultaneously. Afterwards, the doctor placed a heated cup over the site. As it cooled, blood was forced out of the wounds.

Index to Web version < Schadewald, Plane Truth

I spent the past weekend drafting a chapter about flat-earthery, so it seems like a good time to remind the whole (round) world that the late Bob Schadewald's The Plane Truth (2015), a history of the flat earth movement, is freely available online.
