Spent too long in hospital waiting rooms with pneumonia lately, so started blogging again! Head over to www.juliathomaz.com/writing/the-... to join a discussion about all things PhD and creativity!

moderne.video.blog/2026/02/25/v...
Reason number 848372 why maternity leave should be extended: in an article written 2 months postpartum, I call Bakary Diallo and Léopold Sedar Senghor "pètes" instead of "poètes". There is something published out there with my name on it calling the father of négritude a fart.
My editor didn't seem too worried about a completely different outline, so maybe we are both overthinking this? I suppose I have the advantage of the second book being in a different language and different field though :(
Nothing had prepared me for how much harder it would be to write the second monograph from the same project. How to change it enough without losing my identity/original contribution? Any examples of scholarship that has successfully navigated this would be most welcome!
My article about Haitian poet Jean d'Amérique was published today jn a large circulation newspaper in Brazil. Jean's resident at Cambridge was so impactful that I am now considering turning this into a whole research project and I cannot thank everyone involved enough!
I attended the first of these events today, a discussion chaired by @cforsdick.bsky.social and Leyla Chery. Jean d'Amérique is a true genius, and listening to him confirmed that even when one studies poetry of the past talking to present-day artists is a must to understand it.

🥳🥳🥳 EXCITING NEWS!
My book is coming out on Friday! You can learn more about it here: www.honorechampion.com/gb/champion/...
I would really appreciate it if you asked your Uni library to buy a copy or if you suggested it as a review piece for relevant journals!!
This week's Francophone Friday was collaborative in more ways than one 😅 now signing off for a week of fun in London - we're ready to see some dinos at the Natural History Museum!
Very much looking forward to this! A d hopefully some more First World War studies friends can come to the ASMCF conference as well!
Glad it's useful! Feel free to send us any requests, questions or themes you'd like our speakers to cover :)
Hello and welcome to our last Francophone Friday of 2025! We will be taking a break from threads during the festive period and will be back on Monday, 12/01/2026 – but not before we share with you some exciting research and opportunities in or about the Francophone world! 1/11
And after helping me with the article, he helped me compile @asmcf.bsky.social's final Francophone Friday thread of the year!! Now I'm looking forward to the holidaya and full time mummy-ing!
Just submitted my final writing piece of 2025 with a little help from my co-author! It is based on the @fwwsoc.bsky.social 2025 Dennis Showalter Memorial Lecture, which you can watch here: youtu.be/yoaRVrmjDLw?... (bonus points if you can hear the exact moment said co-author woke up from his nap)
Today, we are featuring our Web Officer’s @juliarsct.bsky.social research on French poetry of the First World War. Julia was recently awarded the Dennis Showalter award by @fwwsoc.bsky.social and delivered the memorial lecture in early November. It is now Youtube: www.youtube.com/watch?v=yoaR... 2/3
Column: Hobbies offer numerous benefits, but crafting comes with special ones. After spending 2,000 hours on cross-stitch, the slow, hypnotizing work kept me focused, making needlework an act of expression, self-care, and even rebellion.
I was really excited to go but it's the day Leo has to present the end-of-year results at work so there's nobody to watch Adam :( I am sure it will be a hit and yes, now that you're close by we'll have more opportunities to catch up!
Compiling this thread has made me realise how intense the FOMO of academic parents is! Lack of childcare means I'll miss @frasermcqueen.bsky.social's event and the conference in Tennessee which I would have loved to attend! I love being a mum, but gutted to be missing these events!
Between jabs, sleep regression, and falling down a Kristeva-on-Bakhtine rabbit hole, I nearly didn't get round to today's thread, but I'm trying to get back into a routine and it was for a good cause: learning more about @profstevenwilson.bsky.social's work and introducing him to our members!
So glad to be back and to be able to compile these threads again! There is so much wonderful research going on about the Francophone world, I am delighted we can give it a platform!
On my way to Oxford for the "Languages and literatures of the Francophone world in libraries and archives", where I'll be talking about @lacontemporaine.bsky.social, Birmingham City Libraries & Lautarchiv Sound Archives. If you are at the MFO today, come say hello! (Baby is loving his second trip!)
