I learned about it for speed painting but I like doing it on most stuff now just to show my eye where light would fall, even if I end up using opaque paint. It works amazing on these hand sculpted pieces!

I actually think that can help - if you don't care, you don't treat them as precious and you're more likely to try cool new stuff that you'll level up on the next thing.
I always get a little bit of paralysis on the cool models that I want to look the best.
