Announced by us yesterday, and confirmed today thanks to the work of Senator @mehreenfaruqi.bsky.social, Monash will end its partnership with #WoodsideEnergy.
When they discuss changes in community expectations, we know what they mean; it’s all of you who joined us on this journey.
Thanks to all!

We were incredibly privileged last week to host @rodcampbell.bsky.social from the @australiainstitute.org.au at our Fossil Free Forum-Fest.
#woodsideenergy is a bad faith actor in every space they’re engaged with, and @monashuniversity.bsky.social is naive to think that it’s any different.
The presence of fossil fuel companies at universities around the companies is fundamentally corrupting to research, education, and community.
We oppose #woodsideenergy at @monashuniversity.bsky.social, and all the other partnerships exposed in this amazing report from @australiainstitute.org.au ✊🏼
Amanda McKenzie, the CEO of the @climatecouncil.org.au, offered us some inspiring words on how we can influence change at the institutions we participate in.
Strategising how we win, and how we get @monashuniversity.bsky.social to abandon its partnership with #woodsideenergy, is important work! ✊🏼
Some of the reflections from our AMAZING ForumFest event on Wednesday!
The fight to Stop #Woodside is only just beginning. Our movement is growing, and @monashuniversity.bsky.social can’t ignore us anymore ✊🏼

@monashuniversity.bsky.social has given the #monash community a ridiculously short consultation period for their ESG policy revision.
SWM has concerns, and believe that any meaningful ESG policy would conclude that the partnership with #WoodsideEnergy is not tenable.
Help us tell that to the Uni!
@monashuniversity.bsky.social has put forward a public period for reviews on their ESG Green Paper that is only 6 BUSINESS DAYS long.
This is ridiculous and an extension is necessary for students and staff to review a 26 page document on their most consequential policy.
Couldn’t agree more @amywestervelt.bsky.social. It’s time for Monash to #StopWoodside.
Excerpt from an investigation about Monash University's relationship to Woodside: “The university’s position at the moment is that Monash doesn’t invest directly in fossil fuels,” Griffin said. “But it has no problem with companies like Woodside investing in the university. We want to change that.”
The University defended the relationship, at the time and since, by arguing it was helping Woodside to "decarbonise". As one student, Carina Griffin, who started the recent push for the university to divorce Woodside put it:
/4
That moment when your university blocks access to your website highlighting their relationship with Fossil Fuel giant #woodsideenergy.
Transparency???? Freedom of Expression???

Students and staff at Monash are campaigning hard for the university to end its relationship with Woodside.
The work we are doing at SWM is making waves 🌊
@roycerk2.bsky.social has done some amazing journalism on the details of the Monash’s partnership with Woodside.
Getting into @crikey.com.au and @drilledmedia.bsky.social, and being shared by @australiainstitute.org.au, shows our movement’s power ✊🏼

Anushka from our collective explains some of the revelations in @roycerk2.bsky.social’s article in the @australia.theguardian.com on the Monash-Woodside Partnership.
This was always a disgrace, but it’s clearly time for @monashuniversity.bsky.social to stop its association with #woodsideenergy.
There’s no place for shadowy fossil fuel companies at our University. The best time for Monash to end its relationship with Woodside was years ago; the second best time is now!

TOMORROW - In response to the approval of the Northwest Shelf Extension, we are holding a Funeral-Style Rally at 12pm outside the Woodside Building.
This week shows #WoodsideEnergy to be climate criminals, and @monashuniversity.bsky.social is complicit in these crimes.
#StopWoodside #climatechange
This is the company the Australian government looks set to trust with our climate future.
This is the company that Monash thinks is appropriate to host on campus and partner with.

@monashuniversity.bsky.social has been obfuscating information and preventing students and staff from knowing about its relationship with #woodsideenergy.
This article written by 4 of our amazing organisers recounts the story.

This outcome from the new environment minister is extremely disappointing, but not surprising.
#WoodsideEnergy is a bad faith actor, and will now go ahead with the biggest fossil fuel project in Australia’s history.
@monashuniversity.bsky.social still think this is a good partnership?
Monash is conducting a survey to renew it Environmental, Social and Governance priorities, but did not do enough to bring it to the attention of its students. There is only one more day left (until March 21). Use the free textbox on the last page to tell Monash to dissassociate itself from Woodside!
Did you know the Woodside Engineering Building is named after oil and gas extractor Woodside Petroleum, Australia's biggest fossil fuel company? Shame on the University. Staff and Students unite in protest.
A graph of Woodside's corbon emissions from 1995-2023. Graph shows that Woodside's emissions have doubled in the last five years since Monash + Woodside partnership in 2020
Monash University has nurtured an partnership with Woodside allowing it to green wash its reputation. During this time, Woodside's emissions have doubled. We are Monash students and staff protesting this ugly and embarrassing partnership! ✊
