The same night Kamala Harris lost, a Jewish woman won a Senate seat in Michigan and a lesbian won re-election in Wisconsin. And a straight white Catholic guy named Bob Casey lost re-election in Pennsylvania when everyone (myself included) thought he was unbeatable.

Why did you not mention the discovery of lineage A at the market? By your rationale, it would not undermine your case. But it’s still an important caveat to your statements on the lineages present at the market.

But that quote from your paper is wrong, is it not? Lineage A was found in the market. You might think there are important caveats to that, but I don’t see how that justifies simply ignoring it. False statements in papers should be corrected, no?

Five Reasons Why It Still Wasn't a Lab Leak Time for some of that civil disagreement that the NIH Director can't get enough of

Maybe you heard somewhere that the COVID-19 pandemic started with a lab leak? NO! That is NOT what the evidence shows. It was not a goddamn lab leak.
I’ve had enough. Here is what the evidence shows: it was zoonotic spillover at the market

Aside from the ridiculousness on the “no litmus test” argument, reducing the question of genocide in Gaza to a mere “litmus test” is pretty gross.

Thanks! I think you’re being perfectly clear, fwiw. I’m just not well versed in the technical stuff and the arguments being made in Pekar and by Weissman, so just wasn’t confident in my understanding of your argument.

Just for clarification here (for those of us in the peanut gallery), are you saying that Weissman interpreted Pekar 2022 as testing a generic “one vs two spillover” hypothesis when the paper is actually just focused on which scenario is a more likely explanation for SARS-CoV-2 in HSM?

Lab Leakers: "SARS-CoV-2 can't infect bats, so it must have been made in a lab".

Science: "Let's do the experiment".

SARS-CoV-2 behaves exactly like one would expect in a reservoir species - low-level infection, no overt disease, etc.

Matt Ridley gave the inaugural "NIH Scientific Freedom Lecture Series" earlier today and I just wanted to run through some of the main claims he made - you'll be unsurprised to learn that almost all of them are false.

Here's his summary slide - let's start there.

Feel for the kid.

This is obviously disappointing as a fan, but it’s been infinitely more disappointing to see the utter lack of grace with which many Louisville fans have handled this kid’s injury.

Re Chavez:
Thread for sexual assault survivors/victims (however you see yourself is ok!) and people supporting them today.

Here are some things that I think are useful. I am not an expert, just someone who has been navigating being public about my experiences, including in media interviews. 🧵

It's so incredibly disappointing that Daniel Biss, who had an affair with a student while he was a professor, has beat young and vibrant Kat Aboughazaleh instead of withdrawing from the race

He should not accept the nomination

This is long overdue. Glad they’re doing it.

Best part is that they seem genuinely invested in growing the sport. Let’s hope it eventually comes to rival the men’s game!

I don’t really care about the Magic City thing, but this is weird by Kornet. Not because he’s against it, but because he seems to be using “respect women” as a fig leaf for other concerns.
