Ever seen a poll result that is basically telling the pollsters themselves to go touch grass?

Anti-Data Center organizing is really ramping up especially in the South.

BREAKING: Louisiana has advanced one of the cruelest anti-homeless bills in the country. It would force homeless people to choose between jail and involuntary treatment, make them pay for it, and if they can't pay, force them to perform unpaid labor. buff.ly/d6rXj5h
A drawing in black and white of the Emancipation of some 3000+ enslaved persons in the District of Columbia. With the caption: 16 APRIL 1862: WHEN THE U.S. COMPENSATED ENSLAVERS
160+ years and we're still talking about reparations. But what if I told you reparations were given?
On April 16, 1862, President Lincoln signed the Compensated Emancipation Act.
Except D.C. slaveholders got reparations for EACH freed slave.
Up to $300 which is roughly $11,000 in today's money
Oh. Well, can’t wait to see evangelical leaders not react to this at all
As a union leader what you should be doing is defending your teachers’ labor from the obvious attempts to encroach and automate.
GAI in education is (among other things) a labor issue (even if it has limited use cases)
This is the union failing to do its job.
Genuinely kind of disturbing how little attention has been paid to Israeli officials explicitly promising to do unto southern Lebanon what they did to Gaza
It's THIS kind of messaging they need to get out in front of everyone
This is the kind of reporting (along with a lot of deep dive, crack the case type stuff) that I respect and trust ProPublica for, and why it is so upsetting to see leadership not honor union demands, especially around AI threats.
A graphic reads “92% of participating ProPublica Guild members voted YES to authorize our bargaining committee to call for a strike.” The “92%” is very large. A ProPublica Guild logo is under the text.
1/ Today, we overwhelmingly voted to authorize a STRIKE as we fight for a fair contract with @propublica.org.
Honestly, I am absolutely disgusted by academics suggesting that AI can do the reading and writing for you. At a certain point, what you're bragging about is fraud. And in a broader sense, what you're contributing to is the erosion of knowledge and the destruction of trust in academic publishing.
"BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that we affirm the rights of students and teachers to refuse to sign up for, prompt, or otherwise use generative AI in the writing classroom."
College writing teachers have spoken, y'all.
The CCCC resolution affirming students' and teachers' right to refuse generative AI in the writing classroom passed by an overwhelming majority at the #4C26 Annual Business Meeting this past Friday, March 6.
Link to the full resolution below.
very cool that for ten years people at the heights of political commentary insisted to the point of rage that the paramount threat to free speech was “censorious” college students
Mexico has launched an app for Mexican nationals in the U.S. (legally or no) that has an emergency button you can tap to alert the closest consulate if something happens or you feel in danger from immigration. Please share.
Maybe but that’s absolutely not a reason to comment on a stranger’s appearance on the internet
I love my septum but one time I was in a professor’s office hours and she diplomatically handed me a tissue and said “you have some post-nasal drip” and then looked very confused when I corrected her that it was a piercing
I really and truly hate the DEA
The Atlanta city council and mayor just doxxed and targeted over 100,000 people who signed a petition to put the stop cop city referendum on the ballot.
100k people who were literally just like "the citizens of Atlanta should have a say in this" now exposed via the state to harassment & violence.
Anyone out there have tips for card games that could include people with dementia/memory loss? Bonus points if they’re for more than four players
Co-organizing a seminar for the ACLA and would love it if you could share the below with folks working on migration, cultural studies (film, lit, poetry, digital culture), and Latin America. www.acla.org/shifting-paradigms-cultu...

That in itself is rather inexplicable! Is it at least accessible for people who can’t go up and down a million stairs now?
Wait it was already incoherent they made it worse??
Recently we have had to physically stand her up out of bed in the morning, not because she’s rickety (although she kind of is) but because waking up is for the birds.
