Excited to share a new article from the lab & wonderful co-authors.
We argue that habitat fragmentation research needs to be recalibrated to focus on changes over time.
We hope that doing so will advance understanding, isolate attribution, and diminish heated debate.

Pablo Villar et al discover male octopus mating arms are sensory organs used to find females, navigate internally to the oviduct & deliver sperm. From behavior to structure, these findings offer a framework for how sensory systems shape reproduction & species barriers

Did you know we also record butterfly–flower interactions? 🦋🌸
Three decades of observations show how species loss limits the capacity of communities to reorganize their interactions in response to environmental change.

The key result: suppressing insects with bifenthrin, a synthetic pyrethroid insecticide, suppresses plant diversity.
Unfortunately, with this poison there are knock-on effects to the animal's evolutionary sister group: fungi.
So if 10 years of insecticide is also killing beneficial fungi...

New paper out examining fish food web degradation in the Anthropocene. We show the structure of aquatic food webs are changing-- even when species richness doesn’t. These signals are strongly associated with decreases in body size within fish communities. www.science.org/doi/10.1126/... 🌐🐠🐡🦈🐟
