Have you ever seen a hermit crab with no shell?
Our Junior Marine Scientists did this week! What a brilliant find🔎
This hermit crab was placed back in the rockpool next to a nice, suitably-sized shell so we hope it's found itself a home again now🏠

Happy World Puffin Day!
With their colourful beaks & charming personas, puffins have long captured the imagination of those lucky enough to see them.
This has led to some creative names...
From plain old puffin to Tammie Norrie, what's your favourite term for these endearing little seabirds?🤔
Here are some tips on how to avoid accidentally disturbing them👇
- Keep to the path👣
- Keep dogs under close control (ideally on a lead)🐕🦺
- Respect signage put in place to protect birds🦆
- Move away from nests or chicks quickly and quietly if you spot them nearby🐣

Spring is an amazing time to go outside and enjoy some incredible wildlife encounters, both around the coast and inland. 🌳🌊
However, during breeding season many birds are vulnerable to disturbance, especially those nesting on the ground.

In this short video, Conservation Officer Emma tells us what the puffins are up to at this time of year and why these birds are so special.

The name 'shag' comes from an old word for tufted or shaggy!
