The 74-year-old hiker, Katalin Metro, who spun 174 times during a 2019 helicopter rescue from Piestewa Peak in Arizona, reached a $450,000 settlement with the City of Phoenix in December 2021. Although initial reports suggested she suffered no ill effects, Metro's husband stated she experienced severe physical and psychological trauma, including persistent dizziness, nausea, and anxiety, leading to a $2 million claim for negligence. The settlement resolved the legal dispute, acknowledging that the rescue basket spun out of control because the stabilizing line intended to prevent rotation broke during the lift.
