Hello again and thank you for taking time to even look at this. I feel bad asking for help a third time this year but the situation in my life has only devolved further. I had asked for help in January following my uncle (mother’s side) stealing my car, banging it up, and racking up tickets in other states that he refused to tell me about. I also asked for help a few months after that to cover costs so I could pass my inspection and pay for fixes to my car that was also due to his misuse of my car. I didn’t know if I should ask for help again, but this new situation has been persistent and has taken too much out of me to fully articulate. My father passed away in April of this year. Due to extreme medical complications and a long history, I had to tell the hospital to pull the plug. I had a hard time staying inside my own head for the week following the event. Even now I still haven’t fully processed my emotions and a large part of it is due to his sister making the situation worse and prolonged. Despite being the person who told me and my mother of my father’s declining medical condition, she has made everything related to losing my father (her brother) an even more painful situation. Despite us driving her down to the hospital where he was, and being in contact with the hospital for over three days prior to our arrival, she never told the hospital about me. Even as I was waiting downstairs in the lobby for over an hour, she never mentioned my father had a child to the hospital or staff as I was wondering if he was alive or not. I was then informed of his condition by a nurse and had to tell them to not resuscitate. The call for pulling the plug was less than 24 hours later. Following his death, my Aunt proceeded with the funeral arrangements. Not making it known to the rest of the family that he had died or that a funeral was being held until 24 hours prior to the service via a post on Facebook.
The day I was getting my car inspected, I had called the funeral home and asked for the receipt of the funeral bill and his death certificate as it was required to be designated as the inheritor of his estate (he didn’t have anything in assets so it was more a formality) to which the funeral home denied me. More precisely, I stated I was my father’s child and was promptly hung up on. The funeral home director refused to provide any information to me about my father or the service despite being mentioned during the service and in the pamphlets as his child. I was being denied recognition as my father’s own child and directed to contact my aunt for that information and certification. The funeral home director then contacted my aunt, who then contacted my mother and attempted to smear me by saying I was yelling and harassing the funeral home director by repeatedly calling to make demands. Me and my mother made a collective total of three calls to the funeral home in the span of 20 minutes. First by me, then my mother, then me after her. Following that, my mother and I attempted to get my father’s ashes following the cremation. My aunt proceeded to give us the runaround by saying the funeral home still had the body, that the death certificate wasn’t official yet, and that multiple other processes were delayed which was why the ashes couldn’t be split or provided to us. It took a prolonged and arduous process to get her to hand over my father’s ashes so that we could have some of his remains in our house. She additionally handed over the death certificate and funeral bill while trying to disguise it in medical documents in an attempt to scare us from accessing them due to “violating hippa” should we look at those documents. She also provided funeral cards that were addressed to her family with money that was provided with the intent to aid in covering the funeral costs by dismissively stating “I don’t need the money. You two can figure out how to split $50 amongs-
After finally being in charge of my father’s estate, I proceeded to file to get her to settle her father’s estate and remove her as executor. My grandfather had passed in 2020 (prior to Covid lockdown in the US) and she had been actively spending down the estate, living out of the house, going on vacations, and using estate funds to remodel the house while never properly settling and still living in it with a dual income household. Even my father never got what was left to him by his father in the 4 years prior to his own passing. All that, to bring things to now. The date for a second court date is approaching and I have to help my mother in covering the legal fees to get my aunt removed as executor of the estate and finally settle the estate. My grandfather’s other children were also contacted and there is no contesting in removing my aunt from being executor of the estate. The rest of the family is just as tired of her mishandling of the estate as me and my mother. I received a bill for legal fees of the past month today for just shy of $2000 dollars ($1715 to be more exact) that is due by the 15th of December. This year has been long, stressful, painful, and emotionally exhausting in ways I never thought I’d have to experience following year after year of devastating emotional loss and harm from those who used “family” as a shield for their actions and behaviors. A small (almost comedic) saving grace is that my aunt knows nothing if anything about my having started transitioning this year. Her behavior and actions aren’t motivated by some blind bigotry or transphobia. She had been acting this way even before I started identifying as non-binary. Any donation or assistance in helping me make up the allotted amount would be greatly appreciated.
I really still hate asking for help but this year has been far far too much for me to try and carry on by myself without help.
