So... A friend was supposed to give a PURELY SCIENTIFIC talk at NIH within the next couple of weeks and it was cancelled because of a "new process" where all speakers/talks have to be CLEARED BY A POLITICAL APPOINTEE.

Enjoyed working w/ Stephen & Agnes on this!

Gave me a chance to think systematically about where AI 🤖 can backstop human 🧑🏼‍🔬 fallibilities in peer review (fatigue, ordering effects, bias) vs. where human judgment remains essential (novelty, feasibility, creative leaps) while grappling w/ the risks.

Known for decades: DNA sequence drives nucleosome "rotational positioning" (which face of DNA contacts histones)

But: How does this persist when remodelers & transcription constantly mobilize nucleosomes? Our new preprint 1/ :

A photo taken of a name placard next to an office doorway. The placard is for Dr. Janani Ravi, assistant professor at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus in the Department of Biomedical Informatics. To the left of the placard on the doorway itself is an arrangement of five tastefully designed stickers designed to look like the cover pages of different scientific journal articles. The stickers are, from top to bottom, titled, "Actually, it turns out One Health is important", "The microbiome of everyone and their dog", "This niche gene you've never heard of is cool", "Once again, we've isolated a novel phage from sewage", and "Antimicrobial resistance is bad." Our work in the group is successfully reflected by these joking titles. The stickers were designed and sold by Pink Petri on Etsy [https://www.etsy.com/shop/pinkpetri/].

Transatlantic shout-out to @pinkpetri.bsky.social for these excellent stickers that I gave to @jananiravi.bsky.social, who then immediately stuck them on her office doorway.

Since folks keep asking where she got them, go check out the shop! www.etsy.com/shop/pinkpetri

The paid slack version is great — comes to 1 per active user per month with educational discount. Totally worth it! Easy to keep track of all such shares & conversations! For proposals/ms, we use zotero.
