Thanks to official partners, Museum Plantin-Moretus and the Meise Botanical Garden, the players can skim through the 1581 Kruydtboeck by Matthias de lยดObel. Can you make the most beautiful early modern garden?

Starting in October, the #Louvre will begin a 4-year #restoration of the 24 paintings Rubens created (1622โ1625) for his beloved patron, Maria de #Medici โ from her birth in Florence to her grand arrival in Marseille. The Richelieu wing will be transformed into one big restoration atelier!
Let's dig!!
It certainly would! Maybe archeologists will be able to trace some of the sand layers that were used for preparing the area for tournaments๐
#Utrechtโs main square, the #Neude, across from my office, is being excavated!
In 1540, it hosted Charles Vโs Joyous #Entry, marked by triumphal arches and obelisks celebrating him as world ruler. All made from papier-mรขchรฉ, however, so little hope archaeologists will find any trace of them today๐
Likewise!
Thereโs something adorable about this guardian and child, whoโve brought a foldable chair to watch Maria deโ Medici's #ceremonial farewell from #Amsterdam on 5 Sept 1638. They watch the #French queen motherโs carriage leave #Dam Squareโclearly making a day of it, as shown by Jan Martszen de Jonge.
A picture of me, middle-aged white guy, beard, glasses, blazer, on a balcony with a foggy view of the US Capitol in the background.
Oh hello it's Trans Day of Visibility and, like many trans people, I'm only visible if I say something.
If you think you don't know anyone trans, you probably do.

Tous ceux qui tombent - Jรฉrรฉmie Foa!
I love how appropriately jet-lagged they all look, for this day when Palm Sunday coincides with the changing of the clocks.
My students in art history @utrechtuniversity.bsky.social used #VR today to explore these๐stunning late 16th-century vault paintings up close! Developed by our #ArtLab (Sanne Frequin en Daantje Meuwissen), the experience transported them high into the vaulted ceiling of the Great Church of #Naarden.
What does an art historian do in their free time? Play Assassin's Creed: Unity, of course! The video #game from 2013-14 lets you explore Louis XIV's Galerie des Glaces at late 18th-century #Versailles. Complete with Le Brun's ceiling paintings, chandelliers, gilded decoration -and dancing courtiers!
Graag gedaan!

๐ซWhat a delightful start of 2026!
This weekend I travelled to Venlo - in Dutch #Limburg - to visit โBurgundians in Limburgโ (Limburgs Museum): a wonderful exhibition on the #Burgundian splendour of the late 14th- and 15th-century #Meuse region. [1/6]
... singing actors riding real #elephants๐, banquet tables laden with swan and peacock pies descending from the ceilingโand a mysterious #pheasant encrusted with jewels! [6/6]
๐ฐ... organised by Philip the Good in 1454 at Lilleโs Palais de #Rihour to announce, with great pomp, his crusade to Constantinople. A megalomaniacal piece of ephemeral court #spectacle ... [5/6]
Orโgoing even further back in timeโthe alabaster arcade carved by Claus Sluter in the late 14th century for the tomb of Philip the Bold at #Champmol, a high point of Burgundian sculpture. ๐ฆข Especially delightful is the theatrical evocation of the #Banquet of the Pheasant ... [4/6]
Equally remarkable is the mechanical breastplate of Maximilian of Habsburg from Vienna, which could burst apart during #tournaments๐ซ And there's the gemstone-encrusted crown that Margaret of York donated in 1474 to the statue of the Virgin in Aachen Cathedral during a ceremonial entry. [3/6]
The exhibit features many international masterpieces๐คบAmong them is Gรฉrard Loyetโs exquisitely beautiful reliquary of Charles the Bold from #Liรจge: the furrows in the faces of the duke and his patron saint, St George, are rendered with striking sensitivity in gilded silver. [2/6]

โจ It was an honour being able to witness the ancient #Cypriot Feast of #Theophany today, January 6! While Western traditions often celebrate the Magi's visit of Bethlehem, the #Eastern Church marks this day by commemorating the #baptism of Jesus in the Jordan River by John the Baptist. [1/4]
The ceremony took place before a 10th-century #Byzantine church, boasting remarkably preserved frescoes of Jesus's life, including his own baptism, painted in the 15th century. [4/4]
โช In #Geroskipou, villagers joined a small procession in honour of John the Baptist, walking beneath an icon held aloft by the local priest. [3/4]
