A close-up of the details on the horse around the saddle. The rider’s grey cape is embroidered with white thread. Beneath the saddle lies a purple saddlecloth with grey fringes and tassels. The leather straps connecting the back of the saddle to the horse’s tail and hanging down the sides of its thighs are also adorned with grey tassels.

There are many paintings depicting snowy landscapes that I love immensely, and which inspired me for this illustration. To name just a few, there were, for example: “Walkenried Abbey Ruins in Snow” and “Ruined cathedrals and monasteries” by Carl Hasenpflug for exemple.

It is a landscape-format illustration depicting a horseman riding through snow-covered ruins. The horseman is shown in profile; he wears a wide-brimmed hat adorned with feathers fluttering in the wind, as well as a long grey-blue cloak that covers him almost entirely. He wears dark leather gloves and boots, and only his trousers are purple. The horse is dark brown; its head is covered by a metal piece resembling a mask, much like the figure, whose upper face is hidden by a silver half-skull. The ruins appear to be the remains of a church and a cemetery, whose orange-beige sandstone stones and slabs are weathered by time. Only the base of a pillar and a Gothic pointed arch remain, along with a few stone grave crosses. In the distance, the rest of the cemetery is marked by simple sticks stuck in the ground, climbing up the hillside that marks the horizon. At the top of this hill stands an old, gnarled and bare tree. The sky is filled with pale grey and pinkish clouds, evoking a winter’s morning. The entire scene is covered in a thick layer of snow.

Sometimes sketches lead to larger projects.
Initially inspired by "Death as General Rides a Horse on a Battlefield" by Edgar Bundy, I gradually moved away from the original reference to finish with a scene of snow-covered ruins, because that was something I particularly wanted to try out.

This is a portrait of Copia, also known as Frater Imperator, seen from the front, framed at chest level. It’s a drawing I presented in early 2025, which I’ve just modified to fit the portrait gag in the last chapter. The gag is that in the portrait, the details of Copia’s face—his eyes, nose, mouth and eyebrows—are small and concentrated in the middle of his face, giving the impression that his cheeks, chin and forehead are abnormally large and prominent.

The reason for this illustration is also that I really miss this period of intensive fan art between 2021 and 2023, and I wanted to give myself this gift. Just taking the time to create something for the pure pleasure of doing it. 3/3

I decided to turn it into an illustration featuring Perpetua, and the stages will be visible on Ko-fi starting this Sunday. The start is quite encouraging, and I can't wait to see the final result. 2/3

The character has a skull face, representing death, looking up as if to hum the air. This attitude gives the impression that Death is contemplating it accomplished work with satisfaction. (In the painting that inspired it, the setting is a battlefield littered with bodies). The drawing technique is traditional, using pencil with more or less heavy strokes in oblique lines.

I don't have much time to do technically ambitious illustrations because I'm putting that skill to use on a cool professional project that I'm really enjoying working on, so in the meantime, I hope you like these simpler drawings too.

A drawing in fine black felt-tip pen depicting Perpetua standing in front of a narrow Gothic archway. He is dressed in a very loose-fitting cape with lots of draped folds, the edges of which are torn into long shreds. Perpetua is in a defensive posture, arms in front of him, hands clenched into claws, like a vampire who has just risen from his coffin. The drawing is monochrome sepia, rather dark, with shading emphasised by ink hatching.

A drawing of Perpetua, chosen from my sketchbook where I practise drawing with fine pens and felt-tip pens. For the moment, this habit continues, and it's very enjoyable!

Illustration in the style of an old engraving. Inspired by the 1781 painting The Nightmare by Swiss painter Henry Fuseli. shows Copia being tormented by Perpetua. Here Copia replaces the woman in the original painting, in the same fainting position, lying on a small bed with his upper body hanging so far over the edge that his head is upside down and his left arm is touching the floor. Copia is wearing his simple papal robe, with the fluttering cape and copper-coloured embroidery, so that his body is enveloped in lots of drapery. Perpetua takes the place of the creature crouching on Copia's stomach, personifying the nightmare or sleep paralysis creature. His body is small and stocky, like a small demon, and his ears are exaggeratedly large. But it retains its own characteristics, such as the semi-skull mask and the spinal column ending in a long tail. There are only curtains in the background, adding to the drapery already present. The drawing has been done with a multitude of small cross-hatches. In the top left-hand corner I've caligraphed the words “Fucking V” in medieval lettering with lots of embellishments all around, the whole thing is textured in gold.

Design on black background. This is Copia, aka Frater Imperator, wearing a black jacket, and black leaser gloves. A grucifix in black jewels is hanging from a silver chain, cliped on each side of the jacket, near the colar, pined with two rectangular red jewels. He is standing straigh, above two squeletons which seems to be alive. Each have a ocular globe and tongue hanging, looking happy to be face to face. Their bones are half uncovered, or covered in putrescent flesh, making hanging threads and masses of pustules. From the lower middle of their rib cage, their body seems to emerge from a pile of flesh, taking the shape of a giant heart (the organ). Copia held their skulls in each of his hands, as if pointing them towards each other. In the background, a gilded ornament, resembling rays of sunlight forming a complete circle, above which is a grucifix in the same gilded metal style as the rays. In the same gilded metal, an entralacement of bramble surrounds the heart-shaped organic mass. The whole is reminiscent of the Sacred Heart.

Vertical illustration, lineart style. It shows Cardinal Copia in a white tails suit, leaning against a wrought-iron seat in oxidized bronze, appearing verdigris, on which sits a desiccated body, most of the skeleton visible and the flesh shrivelled into folds and drips. The mummy's garments are torn, and appear to be antique in style, as she wears a lace collar around her neck. She also wears a crown with a green jewel on her forehead. The seat is in art nouveau style and partially covered with climbing ivy. Among the ivy there are also a few bindweed flowers emerging from the foliage. As the cardinal holds the Zombie Queen's hand in his, a half-smile in his face, the mummy seems to come back to life, an eyeball gleaming in her left eye socket.
