For the 2nd year in a row a family of green herons has had babies in our front tree. It’s been so cool watching the little ones grow up! We probably have less than a week before they leave. They are hard to see but all come out to watch the sun set every night. They climb high up to see. So amazing!

NIH funding under the new bill (just passed): "Funding for brain research will be consolidated into one institute with a budget of 2.445B. Currently, brain research is funded by several institutes and adds up to over 5B. So it looks like brain research is getting slashed by over 50%."

Fewer beans = great coffee if you get the pour height right Pour-over coffee is made by flowing a strong, laminar water jet through a bed of ground coffee beans.

We are going to need this research to get through the next few years 🧪:

I know things aren’t easy right now but the SNL concert from Friday night is so good it’s almost overwhelming. So much amazing music and memories! Highly recommend!

How a Canadian scientist and a venomous lizard helped pave the way for Ozempic - National | Globalnews.ca In 1984, Dr. Daniel Drucker, an endocrinologist from the University of Toronto, discovered a hormone that helped pave the way for popular diabetes drugs such as Ozempic.

This is the most relevant article to NIH and research cuts I’ve seen.

Imagine if this was today , how many people would be saying “Why are we studying Gila Monsters and their impact on diabetes ? That’s wasted money !”

Here’s my Beatles moment with Shonen Knife:

One of the best! From Wikipedia:

Cobain praised Shonen Knife's performances during the tour, stating, "When I finally got to see them live, I was transformed into a hysterical nine-year-old girl at a Beatles concert."

So great!

Just a reminder that 69% of white women could not bring themselves to vote for the brown woman. And here we are. All women get covered in brown paper. The irony.
