You’re pumping good stuff into the world. That voice is just jealous.
Me to my brand manager: yeah, I’m not going to put the ad on this video because I think it’ll be too niche.

If we’re comparing them… I think Rise is much more flavourful overall because it has permission to be over-the-top. The Mummy holds back much more than I expected.
I will definitely revisit this one because I strongly believe it will grow on me more with time. The last 15 minutes are fantastic.
UNDERTONE inherits the best and worst qualities of Skinamarink and Sinister. It has some extremely masterful scares when relying on minimalism and binaural sound. Yet it often succumbs to disjointed pacing and cumbersome storytelling, leaving it more contrived than meaningful.
Lee Cronin’s THE MUMMY is unapologetically his second Evil Dead film disguised beneath a fairly underwhelming ancient Egyptian lore. A ghoulish, slow-burn demonic possession body horror that’s perfectly enjoyable but surprisingly lacks a strong identity of its own.
Sorry for the lack of videos lately, my wedding is in less than 2 months. Hoyever… there is a small video dropping this weekend!
The film worked as a reverse enigma where the more we learn about Longlegs, the more banal and pathetic his presence becomes. By the end, he’s not truly the dangerous, powerful boogeyman you’re sold to believe.
A sequel/prequel can’t undo the demystified hand that’s been dealt.
Started watching the Mortuary Assistant, and boy oh boy they do not understand what works about that game.
@ryanhollinger.bsky.social did a great video about why the game's approach to horror was so effective, and I wish the people behind the movie had seen it too.

My Dead End video if you’re curious: youtu.be/lqHq1QosT1I?...
BIG NOTHING is one of those obscure rental memories I have that turns 20 this year. It’s a pitch black comedy crime thriller about a blackmailing gone wrong with a brooding serial killer through line.
It’s made by the director of DEAD END, a brilliantly macabre ghost story.
I’ve actually softened on it since I made that video haha!
YouTube introduced A/B testing where you can upload three thumbnails that are distributed evenly so you can identify which has the better click-through rate.
It’s hit and miss but if one noticeably stands out, I then modify three more thumbnails using that image to narrow of further.
Folks ask why I keep changing titles and thumbnails over the first 2 days - you see that small uptick in the middle? That’s why.
My videos frequently plateau after 3 days unless I get that spike, which helps push it longer in the algorithm.
Exceptions to the rule, but that’s the game we play.
In case you missed it, I have a new video!

I appreciate the marketing but I hope (doubt) it goes beyond trigger bait and actually explores media censorship and moderation with some timely nuance.
Censor (2021) didn’t go past the surface but if you’re going to reimagine a mondo film, don’t waste a gifted opportunity.
