it has to be a fair difficulty for this to apply tho. you have to be able to learn enemy patterns. your character has to move precisely and predictably. difficulty has to be consistent or ramp up gradually enough. these are what makes or breaks a game like that

there's a certain threshold where a game being difficult is very fun cause you learn and can actually see how you get better and it feels great when you overcome a challenge. also exploration is fun (if the difficulty is too great for the player tho, it's just frustrating).
