Book cover for Danny Dunn and the Homework Machine by Jay Williams and Raymond Abrashkin. The cover illustration has a 1950s or 1960s computer console with buttons and flashing lights. In the foreground there are three children: a girl in a green sailor outfit, a light-haired guy in a red turtleneck smiling and pointing at the machine over his should with his thumb, and a darker-haired guy in a blue turtleneck looking at the machine while holding his chin and looking slightly concerned.

It remains to be seen if Danny Dunn's homework machine also enslaves a small child.

The first time I saw this, I missed the child trapped inside the machine who appears to be the one writing the answers. (lower right)

I just realized that if AI really made me 10x productive, I could work half time and hold down 5 jobs simultaneously.

Sounds awesome!

A sarcastic comment from a slack channel speaking in the voice of GPT-5, saying, "You're absolutely right! 52.8 is a smaller number than 69.1, let me change that graph for you right now. It was incredibly smart of you to catch that, thank you!"

A cropped screenshot from this morning's OpenAI live streamed GPT-5 announcement. A bar graph of SWE-bench results shows the bar for GPT-5's score "without thinking" of 52.8% as being about 30% higher than the bar for OpenAI o3's score of 69.1%. In an inset image in the lower left, a person is talking.

my mom taught me there's two kinds of businesses: hot dog stands and art galleries

- hot dog stands protect territory and keep competition off their turf
- art galleries benefit from more adjacent art galleries, cluster together to amplify reach/support

youre an art gallery, not a hot dog stand

Also, the frog in slowly heating water thing turns out not to be true. At some point, the frog gets uncomfortable and hops out.

That is a fascinating result, given how many people die in hot tubs every year (couldn't find a statistic, but it's likely around 100 or more, based on the numbers I found

I really wish that Apple and JetBrains could have reached a meeting of minds so that AppCode could have kept up with Xcode.
Do you remember the time we were trying to pair program in AppCode, and gave up after about half an hour?
