Last class of the semester and only 5 of 25 students showed up to my third section.
Sigh. Making that adjunct paycheck.

i would like just one of these guys to spend even 5 minutes teaching at a regional public or community college before they pronounce

All in the joy of being an artist. It’s been a journey and the fear publishers have is real, but I make better photographs than whomever the WSJ or The Atlantic send to WDW every couple of months to make drive-by photography of guests for negative PR stories.
But we’re close. Should be fun!
The New Deal brought power to the American South, gave my grandfather a job with the CCC (which is how he met my grandmother), and established the TVA where my mom worked until she retired, but please, do tell me how terrible FDR was.
There is an idea that capitalism won in Europe on its virtues alone that belies the soft power exerted by American media (especially Disney) as propaganda.
I could make the case that our present focus on STEM is also a direct outgrowth of Disney (Man in Space / Our Friend the Atom) as well.
Yep. I’m having a hell of a time getting a documentary photo project about this topic published.
Either the publishers think it’s unimportant and low brow or they’re too afraid of the content because it’s too revealing about culture and they don’t know how to deal with that.
My morning reminder that our culture has spiraled into selfish petulance. Which, all things considered, either helped get us to this moment or is a consequence of it.
Just be better, people.
Before my oldest took the pitch today I told him, “Be Gunnar Henderson.” (I know, wrong sport, but I only speak baseball).
Kid had three of his best shots on goal of the season.
So I’m taking my own advice this week: Be Gunnar Henderson.
Disappointment in the inbox this morning despite putting everything I had into it.
Book edits and new photographs while I wait on the potential publisher.
Gotta teach three classes.
Finish prepping work for an exhibition.
Just a normal day, I guess.
We’re nearing one year since the release of my book, and I still can’t believe all the crazy fun things I’ve gotten to do because of it. I hope you’ll check it out!
Dear high-end spa, please pay for a premium music subscription service.
Hearing an advertisement for ZipRecruiter doesn’t quite support the relaxed vibe you’re charging me for.
Opening Day!
Did I cancel my afternoon class to watch the O’s? Maybe.
Self pity for the donor class.
Another day in soccer parent paradise.
Indeed. And that’s what we worked on today - compounding these strengths and momentum into a true capital campaign that benefits the entire community.
I’m with a client today, coaching them on their Annual Fund and current capital campaign.
They’re a small, genuine, hard working historic theater that overcame challenges to create strength and momentum.
Anyone can do this.
I had 23 students in my Zoom room when I started today’s lecture in my first section of Art Appreciation.
Only four students remained when I stopped sharing my screen. Four.
They couldn’t even pretend to care for 40 minutes.
Communicating with attorneys, business conversations with publishers, sequencing new photographs into the book draft, submitting presentations for a CFP, having one kid home sick from school…
…yet somehow bathing my dog this morning was the most difficult thing I did this week.

Kids are home for two weeks.
I need to finish a painting commission.
Oldest son’s birthday party is tomorrow.
I have some client work to wrap up before the new year.
Nothing is wrapped.
Breathe, Micah. It will be a joyous and (maybe?) restful holiday break.
Were there moments that you missed? Anything that happened that’s on the cutting room floor? I don’t think there’s anything I missed that I wish I’d gotten. I’ll give you a little anecdote: Stephen Miller was perhaps the most concerned about the portrait session. He asked me, “Should I smile or not smile?” and I said, “How would you want to be portrayed?” We agreed that we would do a bit of both. And then when we were finished, he comes up to me to shake my hand and say goodbye. And he says to me, “You know, you have a lot of power in the discretion you use to be kind to people.” And I looked at him and I said, “You know, you do, too.”
The Vanity Fair photographer from the Susie Wiles story.

Paint is still wet on this canvas, so I switched to work on the book.
I’m doing a full resequence and throwing in new images as I continue to query agents and look for a publisher.
Always something to do, make, or refine.
Also, congratulations everyone who made something this year. A comic, a song, a film, a novel, a painting, a poem, a short story, a sculpture, crochet, embroidery, whatever it is. In this era of slop and theft, if you *make* something you are a shining jewel and I am so grateful for you.

Sad shade of blue-gray found in medical offices.
Medical Gray. I prefer it over Medical Taupe.
Sent my latest e-newsletter to subscribers this week that includes a promo code for $5 off zines.
I’m shipping prints, zines, books, and finishing up some commissions for folks.
Stock up for the holidays, friends. Art makes a great gift!
My friend Tommy will an eloquent and thoughtful reflection of this past week in Charlotte.
It was tense where I live in north Charlotte and many of us were vigilant at schools and bus stops, but the presence wasn't near as heavy as other locations.
Bruised but unbroken in Charlotte:
