The upper skull of a Brent Goode, showing a flat and rounded beak.

One of the cool things about working on a museum redevelopment is you get days where you’re just pulling random (specifically selected) specimens out of cabinets and taking reference pictures.

This is the upper skull (cranium) of a female Brent Goose, which spend the winters in the UK.

You know when the lyrics of a song finally click…

Even though the song is called “Delilah”, until today I thought the lyrics were “never knew I was a dancer ‘till the Lollards showed me how”

Listen again, you can’t not hear it.

The fact AI continues to just make stuff up, feeding off stuff it previously made up, is so concerning. Especially when so many people will just assume what it produces is real/genuine. It’s learnt to LOOK accurate rather than BE accurate.

This week on the show: Aven McMaster chats with us about the creation, content and context of Virgil's Aeneid!

We learn that the jokes about it being a cheap, Roman knock-off of Homer are way off the mark - and if you haven't thought about reading the Aeneid yet, this episode might inspire you

a pikachu cartoon character is smiling and dancing Alt: a pikachu, a small yellow mouse-like pokemon with black ear tips and brown at the base of its tail with bright red cheeks. It is smiling and dancing, moving from one foot to the other.

In series 1 episode 36 of Pokemon: Indigo League, Pikachu meets a colony of Pikachu. Because sexual dimorphism hadn’t been established in Pokemon at that point (other than Nidoran), technically this was an entirely male colony of Pikachu (you can tell by their tales).

Gorgeous views at Fingringhoe (don’t laugh!) Wick today. Much needed quiet time in nature.

Even with permission to take photos and film, this is all I got last night. I was hypnotised the whole evening. Amazing performance by the phenomenal Sheila E at Ronnie Scott’s. Also, the incredibly kind and full of energy Lynn Mabry! In fact everyone on stage were superstars! Much needed night out.

As some comments sort of allude to, this is probably a syncretic (smooshed up) version of Minerva and Sekhmet, Roman and Egyptian goddesses of war respectively. The lion face is indicative of Sekhmet and the tiny owl a sign of Minerva.

Cute!
