Queen -- all the way

It didn't even cross my mind that he might be a Democrat.

I suppose I was too focused on what a slime-covered monster he was.

gonzo if this set-up doesn't do the job, you might need a Tardis

If you're going to approach the Erdös "AI" solutions to illustrate the awesomeness of AI as a tool, you must bear in mind the extensive disclaimers list. Particularly that problem-solving is only a part of math -- if you're not building theories, you're not advancing the field.

Finally -- a mathematician preferring conversation/brainstorming with ChatGTP instread of collegial collaboration? It's the perfect setup for narrow and blind approaches to problems, and we don't even know exactly how that confirmation bias works aside from "it'll tell me what I want to hear"

This is why formalization of proofs (via AI) is moving in the direction of creating proofs that are so specific to the brute-forced problem -- which makes large portions of proof libraries unusable and sloppy, and the proofs keep needing rewriting or reconceptual work to advance the work.

Is brute force (which then still needs to be stated in a (hopefully elegant) form that allows human extrapolation to other problems -- really what we're looking for? Just throw enough AI spaghetti at the wall and see what sticks? Always keeping in mind that this tech is error prone?

The most dangerous thing a woman can do is get married to a man. (or cohabitate)

I would also like to see the orange man caged and pulled around DC, passing through the Arc. Let's do a REAL triumph.

There is no way he read the trilogy cover to cover.

Can you imagine him being enchanted by the pages and pages of beautiful and complicated travel scenes? He'd probably rip them out and throw the pages on the floor.

IMHO, the pocket calculator is a terrible analogy in this area. Also, mathematicians were thrilled to have a handy way of CHECKING THEIR OWN RESULTS, which was the acceptable use case for pocket calculators unless you wanted to run over to the mainframe building to get a results check.

... the profs, who sometimes bring in the junk AI results that result from running a head-to-head against their own original research. Everyone has a good laugh.

The department secretaries don't even use gen AI to write department emails b/c the emails were rambling & full of irrelevance is.

Grad students in what field, precisely? My son is getting a PhD in math, and NONE the students use AI because of reliability and accuracy issues, never mind the noticeable erosion in being cognitively nimble. The thought of using generative AI for pure math research is laughable (to the profs) 1/

I'm an agnostic and don't read through the glasses of religious faith. I suggest that if you haven't read the Hebrew Bible and the NT, your opining on the matter has little value. As works of literature, the difference is apples and oranges.

Also, talk to a rabbi or an academic priest.

He can't pick a favorite Testament -- he doesn't read anything.

My informed opinion on the matter is that the viewpoints of the hebraic authors are very different viewpoints from the much more recent "New Testament authors writing in koine (common) Greek. It's gritty tragedy vs cute simple lessons.

these are not "domestic violence shootings" -- they are murders.

I'm pretty sure those Republicans would assert that this massacre is the reason we all need more firearms to protect ourselves ...

Wait - so more exposure to the world of ideas, and a commitment to reasonable thinking gives us liberal dudes?

What a fucking surprise!

(ladies, dump those conservative guys asap for your own safety and well-being)

He's screening video that makes it immeasurably easier for me to actually see the video of the quote I just read. Then I can watch the material in full, assuming I can locate it.

Sure, he's an obsessive guy. But he's found a way to use the obsessiveness in a responsible way. He should get a salary

He's reaching more of the electorate than the full speech model. Even me, an obsessive consumer of political info. He's giving us all a valid chunk of the news -- he's faster than me at keeping up with video montage.

When I consume news, I can count on seeing/hearing the important part from clips.

oh -- my sons are having a bone-chilling introduction to the adult world, and it's way worse than the gen x version

i hope they can successfully fight for youth in leadership, and they fully understand the boomer entrenchment and how they held on to ridiculous wealth and power
