So believe me I understand this is deeply frustrating and unfair, but a march that does everything right and still gets tear gassed is a successful march that is winning.

A lot of the strategy of protest is luring the authorities into engaging in obviously, transparently unjust uses of force.

A Multnomah County jury has awarded more than $760,000 to our client Cider Riot owner Abram Goldman-Armstrong after finding defendants associated with the far-right group Patriot Prayer liable for a violent 2019 attack. Even though the justice system moves slowly, we will always stay the course.

We are deeply concerned by the news that CBP agents have shot two people in Portland. Our thoughts are with the victims and their families and we wish them a full recovery. We are at a dangerous moment when our national leaders are defending federal agents’ immunity from prosecution or any real consequence if they choose to harm us. Portlanders deserve the full facts of the situation and accountability from those responsible. We must get trustworthy and impartial answers about what has happened.

This incident and the killing of Renee Good in Minneapolis yesterday are part of a larger pattern of law enforcement violence, targeting Black and Brown and immigrant communities in particular, but threatening all of us. Police continue to rely on armed force as a primary response to situations. When CBP shoots civilians in a Portland neighborhood, it underlines how normalized the use of lethal force is. Lack of transparency, cops investigating cops, limited oversight, and paltry legal remedies erode public trust.

This shooting reflects how policing in our city and our country is shaped by militarization, over-broad discretion, and a culture that fails to prioritize human life and the safety of our communities.

We must defend our community especially our neighbors who are being targeted by the administration. As Portlanders have shown in the past, we will keep each other safe and show up to defeat tyranny in a way that can inspire the nation.

A graphic interpretation of the skyline of the city of Portland. In black text, it says “no military in Portland”. I cannot speak for all Black people but: the deep level at which I literally do not care what Mamdami said as a teenager on an application with no option that described him is matched only by how screwed we *all* are that the NYT continues do the dirty mainstreaming work of literal supremacists

Watchdog group questions Kotek’s commitment to women prisoners in Oregon, quits state panel “What we have experienced over the past two years makes clear to us that the Governor is not committed to urgent or long-lasting change," an attorney with the Oregon Justice Resource Center wrote.

We've pulled out of Governor Kotek's advisory panel on Coffee Creek. Our staff has poured 100s of hours into trying to drive forward the changes desperately needed by incarcerated women but we believe the governor's commitment to reform isn't where it needs to be. www.oregonlive.com/politics/202...

This disgusting email from an Oregon SWAT sergeant takes gleeful delight in fatal shootings & brags about weapons & violence. OSP fought for months to keep from disclosing the most shocking parts of the message because they don't want Oregonians to know how they talk about us in private. [1/3]

In the midst of a constitutional crisis and escalating police overreach, the last thing we need is a bill that would give law enforcement a broad waiver on our Fourth Amendment rights.

Tell Oregon legislators to vote NO on SB 238A.

Detroit Opera Steps Into Trump’s Cross Hairs With ‘Central Park Five’ The Pulitzer Prize-winning opera features Donald J. Trump, whose 1989 full-page newspaper ad sought to demonize the young men wrongly accused of rape.

“Detroit Opera says it is prepared for what might be looming, that it confirmed the backing of board members, alerted donors, considered the risks and took stock of its core mission.
“This piece is so worth telling,” said Yuval Sharon, the company’s artistic director”

Portlanders Mourn the Loss of Dan Handelman, Pioneer of Police Oversight Dan Handelman, an ardent police watchdog and co-founder of Portland Copwatch, died Wednesday. As first reported by The Oregonian, Handelman, 60, suffered a stroke and was in an intensive care unit ear...

Dan cared so deeply for Portlanders. He had seemingly infinite patience for working w/ labyrinthine & impotent police review boards & improving them. He tracked every time police killed & injured someone. Through it all, he had a big heart. A true local hero.

Mahmoud Khalil should be at home with his pregnant wife.

Instead, he's been illegally abducted & had his constitutional right to free speech & due process stripped.

We're demanding his immediate release and we cannot allow this abuse of power to go unchecked. #FreeMahmoudKhalil
