I again note that the most prominent previous use of MADMAN THEORY involved Nixon and Kissinger killing large numbers of people and expending enormous resources in order to obtain the same deal that could have been done before they were inaugurated had they not sabotaged it

Gawain the green knight opening a letter sealed with wax
Little Alex Horne in his studio chair with the caption "so a simple task: land a fair blow anywhere on the green knight. One year later meet him at the green chapel, receive the same blow yourself."
A cut to a wider shot showing Greg Davies in his throne turning to Little Alex Horne subtitled "Well surely no one just ran up and whanged his head clean off."
Cut back to Little Alex Horne subtitled "Let's see Gawain first."
Looks like the original has been swept away by the sands of time.
I don't know if we will win. But it's worth trying cuz we deserve better.
And I agree with Angela Y. Davis, who said, "We can never predict the outcome of our work. As Stuart Hall said, 'There are never any guarantees.' At the same time, you have to act as if it were possible to change the world."

"By the end of the two-year period, 94% of participants reported they were housed."
A million pilot programs show the same thing: when people are given enough money to afford housing, homelessness ends.
Other supports matter, but housing comes first. Not policing. Not moralizing. Homes.
if i might recommend you appoint your evening viewing for best in show, one of the funniest movies ever made, in her honor tonight
"it is right to give him thanks and praise" was always the funniest part of catholic mass to me. a bunch of people murmuring "retweet"
museums are cool because the people who work there are like look at this neat thing and you're like wow that is neat and you just do it over and over again until it is time to go
look all i’m saying is just once it’d be nice if the cat acknowledged one of MY big yawns
Lorca after Neruda Because I was a poem, my country hushed me. They knelt me on the cold stones of a roadway and even when the guns had touched my body, I heard the birds, I heard my heart be strong. Listen. You have to go on without me. You know what my triumph was, my victory? I was open. I stayed so wholly open that I heard the birds and the gift the Spring is singing. They can kill the singers but they cannot kill the song. They can kill the singers but they cannot kill the song. —Joseph Fasano
I can't stop thinking of all the poets slain by tyranny. Today I hear the voice of Federico García Lorca, slain by fascists in 1936.
A reminder that the US killed 80 people in Venezuela, and it would be nice if the US media cared enough to think that the life of a grandmother in Caracas whose building is destroyed by a US bomb matters as much as the life of a person in the US.
“Be kind, be involved, believe in your art,” he said. “At a time when people tell you art is not important, that is always the prelude to fascism. When they tell you it doesn’t matter, when they tell you a fucking app can do art you say, if it’s that important, why the fuck do they want it so bad? The answer is because they think they can debase everything that makes us a little better, a little more human. And that, in my book, and in my life, includes monsters.”
Love this from Guillermo del Toro
David Lynch: "Okay, let's try that again, but this time good."

screenshot of a tumblr post from user “wildmansters” The thing that really boils my potatoes about Al in general is that I have been a creative professional for over a decade now and the devil has ALWAYS been in the details. Big and small, I've had single-person businesses rip me to shreds over how their colors turned out on newsprint, and have worked with huge companies with THICK brand guidelines with every detail of their brand identity laid out and enforced with an iron fist. But I guess all of that stuff doesn't matter anymore? Who gives a fuck if this Al generated baby has six fingers, that mom-and-pop shop is still going to use it. That rug from Temu says Happy Thanksgivirg? Oh well haha it's just a silly funny thing now (nevermind that you never would have given a B-grade item from a craft show the same consideration). I don't actually care that the Al Coca-cola ad has a truck that changes size every scene, but I can't help but think about how, if it had been some poor underpaid artist, they would have been laughed out of the building. I don't really know how to put it in a succint way but it just feels all the more obvious how much more grace and flexibility has always been possible but never offered.
i know WHY this is but that just makes it even more of a kick in the pants lmao
NBC's broadcast of the Macy's parade has superimposed the word "FOREIGNER" over the balloon of Mario.

Every time I hear someone talk about the state of modern cinema I want to shout ‘watch better films then!’, there’s no need to ever talk about a disney produced film from an artistic standpoint, watch In Fabric, watch La Chimera, watch Decision to Leave, watch The Peasants, watch Boy and the Heron
It is genuinely incredible to me how much evidence there is to support investing in the public good and how much animus there is to do this simple, effective thing.
