I help fiction writers shape stronger manuscripts without losing their voice. Empathy-led editing, 🚫AI. Developmental editing ✍️Line editing ✍️Query critiques
- went to the Sacramento book con. It was great to meet fellow writers and readers, and listen in on the panels (always my favorite part).
- @writingbattle JUST started and I read and rated a bunch of stories yesterday, some of which have already stuck with me.
-it’s been rainy here & my daughter…
Toddler splashes in puddles
highlights from this week:
- both of my most-recent clients I performed dev edits for came back with their next draft to work with me on a follow-up manuscript evaluation. It feels good to know they loved working with me, & also just to SEE their writing improve… I’m proud 🥲

If you think you’re ready to query, don’t let fear hold you back. It only takes one YES. Be sure your book is COMPLETE & polished. Agents may only ask for opening pages but they can request a full at any time. Don’t be the person who replies “I don’t have it.” 1/

4 You’re ready to hear “no.” Unfortunately, rejection is just part of the game. You will hear a lot of “no”s and even more silence. It’s all part of the process (and it’s generally not fast-moving).
5 you have a strong hook and opening pages. Even if you’re writing quiet lit fic, you should have a strong hook. And EVERYONE needs killer opening pages to keep the requests coming in. Leave them wanting more!
I’m booking clients now for query critiques and query packages (query, 1-2 pg synopsis, first 3k words, and a 1-2 sentence pitch). Comment QUERY below or shoot me a DM! think you’re ready?

lol I just edited one but it’s not out yet 😅but it’s a cool category!
Oof I feel this so hard. Hope you get some good rest tonight 💛
💯 it’s complicated on purpose! My husband just filed an extension. Are you going to be doing them quarterly? I’m still unclear if that’s required lol. My business was new in 2025 so not much to report.
Exactly 💯

This program is so special. Now every time we go to the mailbox my 2 year old says she has to go get her book from Dolly 😭she thinks there’s books for her everyday. We’ve built such a love for reading in our house and her language is amazing because of it ❤️
It’s already 85 degrees outside Sacramento and I’m BAKING in the sun 😩this summer is gonna be so rough
My goal is never to replace your voice, but to provide thoughtful critique and encouragement so you walk away with both a stronger manuscript and more confidence as a writer.

Liza was very communicative during the entire process, which was incredible. She handed me ideas that gave me a specific direction for revising, and I could see the vision of the second draft clearly. She helped put all the puzzle pieces together and fix multiple issues that I knew my MS had but couldn't figure out how to fix on my own. I can't speak highly enough about her edits. [Book title] is going to evolve and become something better because of Liza’s insightful and skillful editing. If you’re in need of an editor for developmental editing, copy and line editing, or help with your querying package, look no further! 10/10 recommend. Nicole Ward testimonial Developmental edits, contemporary romance
Next up in my testimonial series is debut author Nicole Ward. She's working on an enemies-to-lovers sports romance set in the competitive world of esports. I worked with her on developmental edits and I can't wait to read her next draft!

That’s a great question! I’ve noticed that almost all writers I work with struggle with interiority—what is their MC thinking/feeling? A recent client sent me back her pages after working together and the interiority was sooo well done! I was so proud 🥰it makes a huge difference!
He literally did a naz! salute live on camera… who’s lying??
Although I edit most adult fiction, these are the genres I love to edit (and read)! Regardless of the genre, I excel at anything relationship-based. I’m all about character-based novels that explore the human condition.

Not sure what the difference is between copyediting and proofreading? Heard of developmental editing, but don’t know what it is? Attention: writers! revisionroom.net/quiz Take our approachable personality-style quiz to help figure out the type of editing that’s right for you and your novel:
As editors we sometimes forget that the terms we use, which are so familiar to us, can be confusing and inaccessible to writers. I created a quiz that lives on my website so you can figure out exactly what type of editing is right for you, right now. Visit revisionroom.net/quiz/ #writingcommunity
Build worlds in relation to the character. The same things look different depending on who’s looking at it. A local and a tourist won’t experience the same town the same way. What does your character notice or appreciate? What feels normal or strange to them? How does their upbringing influence this?
Pick small details from which readers can infer more about the world. Avoid early info dumps. Instead, weave that information in. Are the roads unpaved and full of potholes? Where do characters spend their time? If you use dialogue to pepper in world-building, be sure not to over-explain. After all, someone living there already knows that. Trust your reader. They don’t need to be shown everything, just enough.
Routine reveals reality Daily life IS world-building. Commutes, meals, work schedules, money stress, childcare, social obligations—these grounding details make any setting feel lived-in. Think about a daily routine in your life and then think about what that looks like for your character.
World-building isn’t about scale, it’s about intention. If you’re unsure whether your setting is working, a developmental edit can help uncover what’s missing. Comment WORLD-BUILDING below or send me a DM to book! Not ready to hire an editor? Follow me for more writing, editing, and querying tips.
World-building can make or break a book, and it’s not just for sci-fi/fantasy. Even when you’re writing romance, the world your characters live in & how they grew up influences their personality, wants, & goals. Struggling with world-building? world- building? Need help with writing tips from a professional editor Hint: this applies to more than just fantasy and sci-fi
Characters are a product of their worlds. Don’t build a world and drop characters into it like scenery. The setting should influence how they think, speak, move, and make choices. It should complicate the story. If the setting can be swapped out without changing the story, it needs more texture. We are informed by the world we come from.
Social rules are world-building Every world has unspoken rules. What’s considered polite, taboo, impressive, or shameful? How people behave in public spaces often tells us more than physical setting.
Power and access shape the world. Who has power and who doesn’t? Who gets opportunities? Who feels safe and who doesn’t? Why? World-building isn’t just geography. It’s systems, privilege, and limits.

And finally: you’re supporting a small business. It’s no secret that GenAI companies are owned by billionaires who do not have your best interests (or privacy) at heart. I truly want to see writers succeed. Any money you spend directly supports a small, female-, neurodivergent-owned business. This impacts my family much more than it would a billionaire, and enables me to continue doing my dream job of supporting writers.
Don’t let AI destroy your unique voice (and the planet). Hire me, a real human editor. Not ready to hire an editor? Follow me for tips and writing advice.
Hire me, a real human editor! I know it may be tempting to have AI edit your novel, but here’s all the reasons why it’s better to work with an editor (of the human variety). 3/3

I can guarantee confidentiality. GenAI companies have already settled lawsuits against writers for scraping their words without permission to train their models. My clients sign a contract that guarantees confidentiality and that I have no rights to their intellectual property.
AI only focuses on the question. The reason your query needs to be detailed and well worded is because that’s the only thing it focuses on. I’m also going to focus on why a writer is asking that question and why they approached that question in a particular way.
AI can’t offer video calls. Some writers like to have live discovery calls or post-edit meetings. This is all part of the interpersonal relationship to get a feel for how we’d work together, and to help writers debrief after getting their edit back.
I have a network; AI doesn’t. After 15 years in the industry I have a network of peers in publishing, editorial, marketing, and communications. I can leverage that network to help provide information on the industry and help you with marketing strategy. If your genre isn’t one I work with, I can refer you to a colleague.

The benefits of working with a human editor: what I can provide that AI can’t.
I’m not just providing a service. It’s an interpersonal relationship built on trust & mutual understanding. My extensive edit letter isn’t only going to help you revise the novel you hired me for, but will help you improve your craft and confidence in your ability for future novels. I’m a coach and mentor, offering encouragement, motivation, and constrcutive criticism. I center the client and support my writer’s goals. I’m focused on the editorial needs of the writer, not just the writing.
AI can’t be a sensitivity reader. AI does not have lived experience. I can immediately pick up on nuances that a computer just can’t. Is the tone off? Is your joke landing? What about the minute movements of facial expressions and what they mean? I bring ethical judgment and subjectivity in an emotionally intelligent way.
AI does not know the rules of your niche. Certain genres follow rules and structure guidelines. Does AI know that romance novels should end with a HEA/HFN, and that cheating is frowned upon? What about the rules of magic systems in fantasy? I understand these intricacies, and the changing desires of the publishing industry.

Proofreading The last look. This service focuses on surface-level issues only: lingering typos, missing or repeated words, punctuation slips, inconsistent spacing or formatting, and small mechnical issues that can distract a reader. A final once-over that ensures your work goes out clear, clean, and distraction-free. Writers who already have a fully edited, production-ready manuscript. For those who are self-publishing, preparing to upload print files, or sending final materials to an anthology, publication or printer. Manuscripts that have already gone through developmental, line, and copyediting. What is it? Ideal for:

Ideal for: If you’re only interested in one of these elements, such as opening pages or query letter, reach out and I’ll create a unique package for you.
