There was a theater in the actual hotel when my brother and nephew Theodore and I went to St. Louis for Midwest Sociological Society 2026. They played Raiders of the Lost Ark, but we missed it and this was our first movie. I was really tired and nodded off and had to be pushed to stay awake.

It seems a lot of people vote Democratic for basically social democratic reasons, assuming the party is going to do things to benefit regular people. Whenever a major Democrat goes out of his or her way to screw people over, it does major damage.

i can't help but think about 10 or 11 years ago when conservatives insisted that obama was uniquely anti-catholic because his administration thought that catholic-led orgs could just fill out a form if they didn't want to cover contraceptives in their health plans for employees.

In a First for the U.S., Renewables Generate More Power Than Natural Gas In March, for the first time, renewables supplied more power to the U.S. than natural gas, a milestone in the transition to clean power. However, rising power demand is complicating the shift away from fossil fuels by extending the lives of many aging coal power plants.

My thought is that Democrats need to go much further than this. My take is that this is the bare minimum for the next non-Trump Republican nominee to win back competitiveness and in order to reestablish international US legitimacy.

Even were he opposed to THIS war in particular, there are numerous actions he could have taken to blow the whistle, rally opposition, push the war powers resolution, or even try to remove the president over an impending policy disaster, but he chose to stand by the president as the war began.

Anyone who claims to think he was actually against the war needs to be asked why he did not take any elementary steps that could have slowed or stopped the war before it started. He could have gone public or called for and supported the war powers resolution in advance of hostilities, for instance.

One of the biggest Democratic missteps in 2024 was to stop the campaign keeping the "weird" label pinned to him. Regular people see this as intuitively true when pointed out, but the media generally like him and will not let the message spread unless it is actively pushed.

Contrary to public perception a huge % of pregnant teenagers in the 1990s were impregnated by adult men. The younger they were, the larger the average age gap between mother and father was. Fixing teen pregnancy was in part a clampdown on statutory rape. That's what conservatives want to reverse.
