That said, much as multiplayer is probably not ideal as a pure experience for SS2, the fact Nightdive went the extra mile to preserve it as well as they did is commendable. Would be curious if they could produce an alt campaign built uniquely FOR co op but easier said than done.
Doom and Quake remasters in comparison were sitting on decades of source porting they could draw on, and if you didn’t like Nightdives take they made it perfectly easy to move all its old and new content into another source port. SS2? Needs time to cook.
I don’t think this is entirely Nightdives fault, Dark is a bizarrely niche engine that has required famously obtuse workarounds and passionate though the modding community is its fairly small. I just hope updates will make it more accessible for new people
Many mods and fan missions just don’t work with it and using the new visuals with fan missions requires messing with the actual files, which still features issues with fmvs and subtitles. There is NO mod integration with multiplayer.
I think the System Shock 2 remaster looks good and runs really well, all the visual additions are very tasteful and true to the original. My main criticism is for an update that incorporates community mods the actual mod integration is actually more finicky than just modding the original
