This is one of the best pieces of pop culture writing I've read in the past couple of years. These excerpts are great but you need to read how the build to that last one. Goddamn. Thank you @awalrusdarkly.bsky.social and @popheist.com

The thing is though, livejournal IS social media. Social media isn't poison, metric driven design and algorithimic feeds are the poison.
Love my job but hate the feeling of failure and doubt following big events. Even when the thing itself goes well or even great, I obsess over how I was perceived in relation to my role because I usually have at least one awkward interaction
Ahh gotcha, I'll keep an eye on that next session. I'm mostly using magic which feels pretty good so far
Only about 4-5 hrs in and just hit the open world so hard to say, but so far havent dealt with anything major. It's a low bar, but it has been way more stable than the typical Bethesda game
It's striking just how similar down to the second to second details it feels to playing Skyrim, but the world itself evokes the same dream-like, mythical feeling as Elden Ring
Happy to find that Tainted Grail: Fall of Avalon seems to have the juice. Really cool to play something that feels like an evolution of the Bethesda model (specifically Skyrim) from a newer studio. Awesome art direction, great soundtrack, interesting world, and already exciting character build stuff
Almost everything is automated but the automated systems are garbage, and you need a cell phone, PC, and the knowledge of how to navigate this stuff just to do basic things you could do via mail last year. Cool system
Helped someone at work today who can't get their tax refund because of direct deposit shenanigans. We had to go through two different sites, multiple different verifications, & a 30 minute phone wait resulting in a dropped call and he still couldn't get into his fucking account to just add the info
i love living in the first village of an rpg man. friendly neighbors, music is chill af, we even got that one kid we adopted into the village of whom the ancient prophecy was written about. anyway there’s a big ceremony tomorrow can't wait to still be alive after it
I thought this point Eric made about how libraries are early introductions to a social contract was really interesting, too:

Do you see the horse's head? What you are seeing is not the famous Horsehead nebula toward Orion, but rather a fainter nebula that only takes on a familiar form with deeper imaging. The main part of the here-imaged molecular cloud complex is reflection nebula IC 4592. Reflection nebulas are made up of very fine dust that normally appears dark but can look quite blue when reflecting the visible light of energetic nearby stars. In this case, the source of much of the reflected light is a star at the eye of the horse. That star is part of Nu Scorpii, one of the brighter star systems toward the constellation of the Scorpion (Scorpius). A second reflection nebula dubbed IC 4601 is visible surrounding two stars just below the image center. The featured picture was taken from Sawda Natheel in Qatar.

Maybe I'll do a few single player FFs first. Only one I've ever finished is XV and VII:Re. The ones I'm most interested in currently are IX, XII, and the XIII trilogy
Want to get back into FFXIV someday and follow the story and fully invest in crafting. But it's been so long I'd have to restart, and the idea of crawling back through ARR kills any enthusiasm. Dungeon Support System may still make me more likely to reinstall though

Edge of Fate has one of the most tragically beautiful stories I’ve played in any of these campaigns. It’s also the place I decided to hit the fake griddy in my mandalorian armor after 5+ hours of playing.
Masterpiece.
Yeah I gotta. Hope that new one this summer is good
Finally watch Ghost in the Shell. Amazing movie, but I was kind of bummed that just as it hit the most interesting stuff it ended kind of abruptly. I was ready for another 15-20 mins
learning marathon 2 did not have music bummed me out at first but when i booted it up and heard the only track in the game at the title screen i realized they had just solved music entirely there and there was no need for any further tunes www.youtube.com/watch?v=WlRM...
Don’t totally know how to express this in a nuanced enough way, but I’ve been feeling bummed out over how games get dissected in the past three years. A lot of mainstream discussion feels less interested in the games themselves and more about what they Represent About Gaming. It wears me out a bit!
