the root problem, of course, is capitalism. because the saudi money goes through 'legitimate' financial channels like the stock market, it's treated as equally valid as anyone else's. we as consumers (and developers as employees) have very little power to counteract that.

a lot of people love posting about how they would never buy an snk product, but if it would affect their ability to play resident evil or street fighter, the same people profit but suddenly the situation is a lot more nuanced. the principle is legitimate, the double standard is what annoys me

as a fan of snk games, i have no problem with people saying that they cannot buy their products in good conscience considering who profits from it. *but* i think people should have the exact same energy towards capcom, ea, and every other gaming company with saudi investors, and they never do
