No, but that situation did call for one, IMHO. Hoff did need to be deceptive during that outing, and he took one of his best pitches, the fastball, out of the mix. It made it harder for him to do so, and the Sox made effective contact twice, without the bunt.

Runner on 2nd, 0 outs. At the very least, the batter is looking to put the ball in play to advance the runner. He does. The pitcher gets the out. In that at bat, was the pitcher untouchable, or was he touched a little?

He looked good against 1 batter out of the 4 he faced, IMHO. Montgomery grounded to 1st, advanced the runner to 3rd. Next, threw Hays 2 good splitters for swinging Ks, then 2 that were lousy. Got him on a nice slider. A+ Then the bunt, then Peters.
