Happy #fossilfriday I’ve spent the last few days cutting down the jacket and airscribing around the orbit and nasal bones of this Pachyrhinosaurus lakustai skull. Big Sam is looking fantastic and has some very interesting features for future study. #dinosaur

With the first #fossilfriday of the year this is a #troodon tooth collected last year from one of our most exciting sites in the Wapiti Formation that I prepared last week. It’s so cute and tiny.

I decided to do a bit of an outfit this Halloween so I made myself a Captian Pike uniform while working on dinosaur fossils today. (Pike cause he is canonically bearded for a while unlike Kirk 😂) #startrek #dinosaur

I'm pretty confident that certain online people are going to be cheering about how they were right all along on Nanotyrannus. Their take will be that they were right all along and their arguments, based on private specimens of uncertain provenance, photos of things without scale bars, and ideas...

USAID was doing a fine job keeping millions of people fed and medicated before he “fed it into a wood chipper.” Go fuck yourself, Elon.

“I absolutely disagree with Carney that the economy and market forces need to be used because the economy itself is driving us into the ditch. It’s based on the creed of cancer — steady growth — and you can’t have endless growth in a finite world.”

The final portrait I could find from my time on WWD - Rose the Albertosaurus. All of these were done in early 2024, so about a year and a half ago now!

Fuck these fucking fucks to hell.

This has been up for 2 weeks after I sent them a DMCA takedown notice and now they're just ignoring my emails.

I didn't give them permission. If you bought a short from them I do not endorse it. You can get my stuff here: emmalerae.threadless.com

An absolutely gorgeous #tyrannosaur tooth that I collected from Dinosaur Provincial Park while working with the UofA palaeontology crew under Phil Currie. I found 3 of these beauties but this is the best! #fossilfriday

Which is all to say, if we want to avoid future generations thinking the same about us, we all need to get on board with doing more for nature however we can!)

(On a personal note, while dodos are fascinating, they're also v. depressing to paint. We wiped out these remarkable birds so fast that we didn't even collect decent specimens for museums, and it's difficult not to continually reflect on our awful, callous attitudes when researching such animals.

Vignette illustration of a dodo, the famous extinct flightless pigeon of Mauritius. The browns and yellows of this reconstruction are very different to the grey plumage usually ascribed to dodos, and are based on paintings of the bird thought to be drawn from life. Note the blue flash under the beak, which is still observable on the famous Oxford dodo head specimen.

A grey 3D printed head of a dodo held up to a confused greyhound for scale. Dodos were pretty big!

Detail of a large painting of birds by Ustad Mansur, showing a dodo with brown-yellow colours. It is suspected that this image may have faded somewhat over time, with the yellows of the feet and wings especially degraded. Note the intense, colourless iris.

For #FossilFriday: #paleoart adventures with dodos including my latest reconstruction of this famous pigeon with accurate(?) colours, 3D printing a life-sized scanned dodo head (Kolby the greyhound for scale), and upscaling Ustad Mansur's c. 1625 important painting of the bird in life. #sciart

Trump even admitted he knew Elon had a drug problem and still gave him access to America’s most sensitive information. You’d think DOGE would be dismantled, not embedded. You’d think Elon’s staffers would be investigated. But nothing is happening. Something is off.

The blowup between Elon and Trump hasn’t ended DOGE, it’s still expanding. Russ Vought now plans to institutionalize DOGE across the federal government, and Elon’s staffers are embedded deep within key agencies.

This is not about saving money, this is about weakening a class of people who have been trained to think independently, are used to speaking out, and whose voices are respected and listened to.

This isn’t an economic move, it’s a political one. The aim is to hamstring dissenters.
