I want one

And yeah one could say this means new skills must take their place. New skills which are learned during this new AI era. Maybe I'm getting old and realizing that the skills I've learned aren't as applicable anymore.

That just makes me really sad for the people that are learning programming now because they should learn these skills but they're in an environment that's built to both make those skills redundant and subvert them at every turn.

But AI doesn't fuckin do that. It will tell you the wrong answer in full confidence, and even more now that those replies on StackOverflow are written by AI that's referencing incorrect library documentation that's 15 versions out of date.

But that answer wasn't actually *always* correct. Often times I'd need to read the third reply in the StackOverflow thread, sometimes I'd need to read the OP and figure out that their issue is actually subtly different. Sometimes the library I was using had incorrect documentation.

Nowadays though, AI just does that for people. It offloads that mental load of needing to learn how to skim StackOverflow or a page of documentation to find the correct answer and it just presents that to you right at the top of your Google search. It'll give you that answer in full confidence.

That was a skill I had learned, and in a lot of ways teach to other people, and encourage people to learn.

Like, when I was in college, if I had a problem with something I was developing, and I searched it up, opened the first StackOverflow response, I knew to find the correct answer I had to skip the OP, skip the first reply, and only read the second reply, that one was always the correct answer.

I was driving to the grocery store with one of my partners and I had a conversation about how I realized I had developed an understanding for how to properly gleam information from a web page that AI has made redundant.

FedEx has changed something about their delivery driver's process and now every single package I get delivered through them always gets slapped with an "Incorrect address"error despite the fact my address is indeed correct.

It happens literally once or twice every time I hold this class and I manage it well but I still bothers me

I teach classes during my job where we have a lot of audience participation. It breaks my heart every time I call upon a woman and a man talks over her.

Digital art commission illustration of four anthro characters at the beach. Three characters are taking a dip in the shallow ocean water in different states of undress, dripping and shivering while laughing sheepishly. The fourth character is sitting on the sand in the background with a bemused expression. The background is a grassy cliff with pine trees.

Ideal conditions for starting your passion project will never come. You will never feel skilled enough to make it. There will never be a moment where you stop being scared to start. Do it anyway. Do it badly. Do it scared. Just make that thing that’s clawing at the door of your soul; It wants out.

You know what would actually reduce crime and homelessness?

Universal healthcare, free education, affordable housing and a basic living wage.

When people have their most basic needs met, they have happier and healthier lives.

Those hoarding the wealth don’t want to give us those things.

a man in a suit and tie is standing in front of a microphone with a make gifs at gifsoup.com logo Alt: Steve Harvey, the host of Family Feud, in a suit and tie looking away from what is presumably a contestant on Family Feud after they said something. His face reads as dejected, upset, and maybe a little crest fallen. He looks down at the floor near the end of the gif, his eyes fixed on a point far off in space, as though he can peer through the floor into a better world.
