Godzilla: Minus One is one of my favourite films of all time (horror / kaiju as a allegory, YES, feed it to me) and the first film I've seen mutliple times in the cinema since the original Jurassic Park. To say I am excited for this is an understatement

I get why some who grew up through that may not be comfortable with being called queer. But it's been reclaimed & I love it. To me, queer=community, it's an umbrella term, it says if you're not sure how you fit exactly yet, or you aren't comfortable stating it for whatever reason, you still belong.

Unfortunately, the media friendly queers (i.e. mostly cis, white, gay men) were complicit and adopted the whole 'gay not queer' narrative, which, tied in with media representations of angel gays and nasty queers, did lead to a period of time where queer was mostly a prejorative

Queer history (especially as viewed through the media) is one of the topics I love reading about & have several books on. Queer was definitely being used by the community long before it started being used as an insult (in a similar way the Right tries to adopt AAVE & twist it into being a negative).
