Lidl and Iceland ads are first banned under new UK junk food rules ASA rules ads on Instagram and Daily Mail website broke ban on promoting items high in fat, salt and sugar

Both were found to be in breach of the legislation, as they promoted identifiable less healthy products (as defined by the 2004/05 Nutrient Profiling Model) through paid digital advertising.

"The current rules rely on an outdated nutrient profiling model, apply to only a limited set of products and media platforms, and leave major loopholes such as brand advertising.

The letter called on the government to close the loopholes also highlighted in Nesta’s new report:
✅ adopting the 2018 Nutrient Profiling Model
✅ removing ‘brand’ and ‘brand ranges' exemption.
✅ beginning work on the next phase of ads regulation, including outdoor and across other media channels.
