I’m having my students teach a lesson this semester. It is their research project but it requires them to share their knowledge with people other than me. And they have to create activities to do with their peers. I also have them write a reflection on the experience

The only purpose of education is education itself. To a create an intelligent informed society that can manage its own government. Job training isn’t that.

My dad was a theater professor and his take was that you go college to learn how to learn. That’s what the Humanities do. I got a BA in Medieval Studies and an MA in English (Medieval and Renaissance). I’m a software engineer. (Latin isn’t that different from coding.)

I agree wholeheartedly. My life is much fuller thanks to the humanities classes I took at university.

I get yelled at for saying this but for many hundreds of years people went to university not to get diplomas or be employable but because immersion in the humanities was considered foundational to a good life, and school must return to its original purpose: the joy of learning.

Sure wish NBC/Peacock had commentary on the #paralympic alpine skiing. Seems like they don’t care as much about these games. There are literally 6 sports, you’d think they could send 6 people to cover the games.

It should be a mess unless it’s your final draft. Get that mess out of your brain and onto a page. Then clean it up after 🧡
