He’d better send his two sons off to an overseas boarding school ASAP though

We see depressingly large amounts of that leveled short reading blather in her homework, though they do at least expect kids to read novels on their own time (and have monthly packets where they have to handwrite a few paragraphs' worth of short responses about them)
It's "Wit and Wisdom" from Great Minds, this is NYC district 2 and they rolled it out for elementary school already but are now starting to push it to middle schools. (my younger kid has it already and it's been *fantastic* for him, we were formerly in a district that was fanatical about Calkins)
a) Wow
b) Thank God this is a state case and hence not easily fixed by Bald Testosterone Goblin throwing money around
This is insane, though TBF my daughter's middle school is switching ELA curriculums next year and "everybody reads the same novel" was presented to us as an exciting unorthodox feature of the new curriculum (and I associate the decline of that with Calkins' 'just right book' BS)
Maybe a combined approach, charge for parking and offer a discount for residents with local plates
Killing Julian Glover
Hey it's the girl from The Wizard
Watching Back To The Future with kids for whom the 1950s and 1980s are more-or-less indistinguishably old is a humbling experience
He’d be a legitimately excellent pick for ambassador to China under a future Democrat, there are few people more central to the past two decades of that relationship than Tim Cook
He was the second coming of John Sculley and I hope Ternus isn’t the second coming of Gil Amelio
Good riddance. He wiped away most of the soul and whimsy of the Jobs era, launched a succession of meh / disastrous new products, and took the company to bold new heights of “treating developers like shit” even to the point of making other senior leadership uncomfortable; also toadied up to Trump.
They used the exterior of Salk in “Wizards of Waverly Place”
I think there was a piece a few years ago talking to Kentucky residents who hated Obamacare but loved <Kentucky state brand name for Obamacare plans>, people are happy with socialism as long as you pretend it’s locally-produced
That's not inauthentic, that's stupid. He's been a dim rich racist slumlord for more-or-less his entire public career.
Trump is certainly hateful but he’s hardly inauthentic
Due to slumping sales, Minute Rice is now Forty-Five Second Rice
“Why is an EGOT-winning comedy legend sitting in the corner with an enigmatic smile while Joe Piscopo tries to explain comedy to a robot?” “Well…”
In fairness he also had Whoopi Goldberg working on it
FZNewKai at the moment since it’s what we use in the app and people seem satisfied with it
Gee it must be difficult to negotiate with a government that changes its position every 48 hours
We’re making our own, in KaiTi style which people seem to greatly prefer
I have no great love for Platner, but the best way to keep Platner from turning into Fetterman is to up his dose of Crestor
Fetterman had a stroke and it seems to have changed his personality significantly, any comparison to Fetterman should probably factor that in
This would be solvable with technology, we just need to tie in the ambulances’ GPSes to the traffic camera system and have traffic cameras ignore incidents within say 1/8 mile of an active ambulance (and widely publicize this)
Unintended consequence of the day: an ambulance couldn’t get cars to get out of its way because the only place they could pull into is the bus lane and everybody is freaked out about bus lane violation tickets
The one production code task I'm currently thinking about setting it to is building me a tool to handle deck imports from Anki's annoyingly complicated new data format which I haven't supported yet.
Can throw stupid amounts of compute at my little scripts too, like it's presently in the 5th iteration of developing a machine learning model to reduce the number of errors I have to manually correct in our new stroke order diagram data by ~20%.
2 weeks into Claude Code and the main thing I think I'll be using it for is writing crappy little scripts; I do write a *lot* of crappy little scripts, since I'm in the Data File Manipulation business, so it's well worth the money to have somebody toil away on them for me, but not production code.
It would however be hilarious if conservatives started doing things that incur automatic excommunication, like desecrating the Host or ordaining an illegitimate bishop
