I guess it also might be easier for the publisher to just mimic your game with new theming, etc. So that might be a downside.

And you'd need better art than for a prototype, which might mean more expense, unless you're an artist too.

I think if you have a great game, BGA-as-advertising is a fine way to go, and I think BGA-as-playtesting will make it more likely to have a great game.

but that may not work for everyone, etc.

For a variety of reasons, I launched my ladder card game Skybirds on BGA, prior to creating physical copies (and perhaps never making the physical version, TBD).

As a shy person, I have found it SO MUCH BETTER in terms of playtesting/balancing than forcing myself to go to Protospiels and such.
