With how the new updates are being handled though I can at least say that I am hopeful that future updates will bring back more of the friction that made older monster hunter games exciting to play
I think once you get to the actual monsters (especially with 9 star fights and beyond) the game is generally fantastic to play. But between the really visually boring/muddy environment design, the large amounts of tight spaces, and less frequent environment mechanics, there's not much outside that
Issues with on-rails story issues and bad writing/dialogue aside, I think the current two biggest problems with Wilds are the overall map designs and the lack of interactivity as the game just plays itself via Seikret autopilot until you get to the boss fights
Game is too sanded down in this regard
Having played through the Monster Hunter Wilds update over the weekend I think the game should be heading into a pretty good spot for the expansion
AT Arkveld is the right direction for matching monsters to the power level spike of focus attack mechanics
Now we just need much better maps...
