Before I became Head of QA, I worked several roles at several start-ups as a configuration manager, build engineer, release manager and environment manager. Seeing this brings back a lot of memories, and a lot of nostalgia: the big monitors, the RS232 cables - quite magical.
I know this is old news, but I still can't get used to the new Instagram image sizes, and the way I find it actually limits my posting, because it just looks so bad on the app. I know apps like Foto do away with all that, but until it builds more momentum, Insta is still the place to be seen.
This has been such a boring day at work, I think I'm literally going insane. One meeting, and a single Teams message, and that was it. I went to the shops twice to buy shampoo i don't even need, just to fill the time and be around other people. I'm 55.
Going through my photos I came across these from one of the many workshops I went on. I was terrified of asking people for portraits - not so much the asking, but what to do if they said 'yes'. At that point you kind of have to show you know what you're doing even though you haven't got a scooby.
Horse, with Croagh Patrick in the background.
Taken on a fabulous day driving around Co. Mayo, taking photos (despite the fact that I was shooting jpg's all day 🤦🏼♂️)
Today, I've been listening to The House of Love's self-titled 1990 album, often called the Butterfly album. The tracks Shake and Crawl, Never, and in particular Se Dest stand out, primarily due to their intricate drumming. It's probably my top pick among all their albums. #TheHouseOfLove
Today's featured track is "Right Back to It" by Waxahatchee. This American indie music venture was initiated in 2010 by singer-songwriter Kathryn Crutchfield. I recently discovered this song when it kicked off a playlist I subscribed to on Spotify.
Bertra Beach, Co. Mayo. Known for its scenic and stunning views of Croagh Patrick. We used to take the kids there during the holidays, it's where they learned to windsurf.
The pub at Cleggan harbour, west Co. Galway. The ferry to Inishboffin goes from here but when I was there it had already gone. A nice wee town, the plan was to stop for lunch and maybe get some fish ’n chips but the place was heaving so I took some photos and drove on.

Home for a few weeks, enjoying a welcome break from work. And getting a chance to do some photography, the kind I wouldn’t, or couldn’t, do bavk home.
I really must get another laptop, the fan on this one sounds like a 747 taking off in a headwind.
To the Japan Festival in Amstelveen yesterday. I would have loved to stay longer but it was so hot, and so busy. Last year it was 35c on the same day 🥵
This is the best I came away with.
Some light reading for the holidays!
This is one of my favourite photographs.
Taken by Robert Adams, it exemplifies his masterful black-and-white photography, which over the past forty years has chronicled the changing landscapes of the American West. His images, ... amanwithglasses.micro.blog/2025/06/27/this-is-one-o...
Another one from my walk-about in Uilenstede. Very much enjoying the new Nikon Zf!
Alanis Morissette fairly rocking it out at Glastonbury.
Think I’ll put on Jagged Little Pill later on - such a great album.
Getting my Henry Wessel on 📸
I’ve just realised why it’s taking so long to load the images I posted recently to my micro.blog - they’re all around 5mb in size bwahaha. Must check this in future, Lightroom creates enormous jpg’s.
I’ve had this idea for a project for some time now, a project about Amstelveen, the town in which I have lived since moving from Ireland. It’s not a desperately nice town, it doesn’t have the amazing architecture of it’s big... amanwithglasses.micro.blog/2025/06/22/ive-had-this-...
Some photos from Uilenstede, a neighborhood here in Amstelveen. Mainly office blocks and student accommodation, there are now also cheap hotels around making for a strange mix of people and vibes.
Taken with the Nikon Zf, a simply fabulous camera.
I tried to watch the press conference from the Pentagon on last night’s illegal attacks on Iran but just couldn’t stick it beyond the first three minutes. The glorification of military might, of destruction, of war, of death ... amanwithglasses.micro.blog/2025/06/22/i-tried-to-wa...
Some photos of a quick run out to NDSM in Amsterdam with my new Nikon Zf.
