Notetaking for game books
monkeyslunch.com/not...
If you play solo game books, you know it can be hard to track your progress in a sensible way outside of your character sheet. If you need to rewind or tell your story, here's my notetaking format to help.
A cool stick on the ground that looks like a sword. It is stripped of bark except for about half-a-foot at the base, leading up to a knot. Above the knot, the bare wood curves slightly and ends in a sharp point

Did you know arthropods shed their exoskeletons as they grow? It's a process called ecdysis, but most of us just call it moulting. It's also how characters level up, pass time, evolve, or mutate in #ttrpg Bug & Claw!

Sigh. Pets.
You should want to keep playing a game because it's fun or rewarding, but not because it's addictive or trying to get something from you (like your money, data, etc).
I talk about this more in "Favourite mechanics: Taking a break"

For years the populace of Patient Watch avoids Stagbay proper because of a giant shrew living nearby, biding their time until they can take it and its kin down for good-- which is where their namesake comes from.

Does a player need to miss a session? How do you explain that while they're gone or once they return? Now, you can do so with some interest, explanation, plot hook, and flair!

A collection of Scrabble tiles on a notebook. The letters P, G, P, I, E, and N. The letters form prompts to write out ideas to flesh out the concept of the city.
