I've had three months time to prepare this presentation, of course I only start working on it for real 2 days before the date... why does it always have to be like this. 😫

Got an Earthquake warning on iOS last night, but the warning was suppressed by Do Not Disturb mode. I think that might be taking it a bit too far 🙂. The shaking woke me up (magnitude 5.4, all good).

i’m out of the loop and not competent enough wrt ATproto to judge attie conceptually, but isn’t the most likely explanation that investors need to see “AI” somewhere to be happy? This announcement, and the belated mention of the 100M round that happened a year ago leaves a sour taste in my mouth.

Do I know someone who works for LINE (the popular payment++ app in Asia)? Met with a customer today who said my library works better than LINE’s built-in QR reader, which is… surprising!

“Hey you should totally buy this Gaming PC because it will be so awesome to play on and you’ll totally rediscover the joy of gaming”.
(time passes, with barely any playtime, a tutorial at best)
“Damn if I boot this thing I’ll have to install updates *and* relearn controls.

It was a short chat. 🙂 We kind of settled on "If typing characters into the text field and getting a simulation of responses by a therapist helps you, it's a net win". I didn't want to engage on a deeper level (e.g. how the sycophancy might reinforce negative tendencies), it's just exhausting.

Reminds me of a recent chat with my sister-in-law who was raving about using ChatGPT as a relationship therapist… 🙄

Huh, first time this popped up, don’t remember agreeing to Siri reading my mal. 😠

Euclidian distance is probably where I use this the most...
d < √(dx² + dy²) becomes d² < dx² + dy²
Does this have applications in Mediabunny? I imagine codecs have a lot of √, but that is wrapped in WebCodecs?

Yep, I use that a lot!

Doing fixed-point math with just integers is so elegant (and fast, depending on the context).
Example: check for v < 0.8*r
Reformulate using fractions: v < (4/5)*r
Rearrange: 5 * v < 4 * r
Voilà, no divisions, no floating-point, just integer multiplications. Blows my mind sometimes. 🙂

Some of these days, I feel like chasing down failed payments/unresponsive customers is half of the work. 🙂

iPhone 6S and iPhone SE 1st gen next to a prominently featured vintage Vectrex console

Ok, you made me dig up an iPhone 6S and iPhone SE 1st-gen, both updated to iOS 15.8.7! Strangely these have an issue with my CSS. I am not investigating. 🙂

The oldest test device in my iOS collection is an iPhone 7, and it has Safari 15.8. If you install the updates, even a 10-year old phone supports the <dialog> element 🙂

The Popup Scanner | SDK Documentation

In my barcode scanning library, I use the <dialog> element to offer a simple popup scanning experience. It's used pretty widely, and I've heard no complaints so far.

I'd say we don't need more, just better software. 🙂

And to take one step back, do we even need more software?

Ironically, LLMs would be great at filtering this shit out 😂

I'm getting a lot more spam in the style of "We're amazed at what you're doing in the XYZ sector! How would you feel about getting 25 qualified leads every month?". Obviously they're crawling the domain and feeding the text into an LLM to come up with some BS pretext for the email. Hate it. 👎

Takeout *is* portion control for me. 😬 When I cook at home, it's too much, also because having leftovers is useful (two kids). Also I sometimes finish their plates when they're picky.
I've found that movement pretty much stalls the weight gain and makes me feel better, but losing weight is hard.
