The markets didn’t go up because they thought Iran was ready to capitulate, but because they think Trump is ready to call it quits in Iran.

The market’s response to Trump’s obvious fabrication of “productive talks with Iran” marks a new turning point where people no longer question whether Trump is lying, but only what the lie is signaling - in this case that Trump is looking for an excuse to retreat from his latest fuck-up.

Some journalists have asked why Trump didn’t go with his “more robust” tariff plan initially.

The answer is obvious, and cold water in the face of those who saw this ruling as a big win for democracy: Trump needed the Supreme Court to vote against him in order to demonstrate that it didn’t matter.

Their support is based on their fear and their perceived need for a strongman in a time of global uncertainty where they feel their very identities are threatened, and are willing to defer to their leader, without question, so long as he promises to keep them safe.

I hope that the Democrats are finally realizing that Trump’s followers don’t support him because he’s espoused policies (no foreign intervention, etc.) that they believe in, they have those beliefs because they support him, so calling out the Trump’s hypocrisy isn’t going to change anyone’s mind.

Bring down the price of groceries and everything else is just fine…

The Democrats aren’t defending liberty, just negotiating the price of submission.

Just putting this out here now for future reference: Elections will not fix the current American nightmare. An administration that controls all levers of judicial enforcement and a willingness to disregard the rule of law isn’t going to let “electoral niceties” stand in the way of its objectives.

Because the left needs to offer ideas and solutions that don’t actually call for government reform or structural change as any suggestion to that effect will be simply disregarded as “un-American” and therefore “impossible or impractical”

Let’s say by some miracle the American ultimately remove Trump from office. Now that the full destructive power of the Presidency has been revealed, how do we ever let anyone have that kind of power again? And how do we prevent it without completely re-architecting the federal government?

Ironically, this doesn’t include candidates whose only platform is “loyalty to Trump” as that only makes them members of another “Establishment”

You don’t have to be the leader, but you can’t really be anti-establishment while basing all your views on someone else’s.

…and which continues to demonstrate its uselessness every day.

Anti-Establishment candidates regardless of party affiliation will continue to win key elections because of this.

Trump didn’t get re-elected because he was more “conservative” or “centrist” than Harris. And he didn’t get elected because Harris was too “woke”. He got elected because he represented a big middle finger to a government Americans have come to angrily view as broken and useless…

It also what fuelled Trump’s return to power.

The divide isn’t between left & right and hasn’t been for awhile. - it’s between pro- and anti-establishment. It’s time for the dems to stop racing to the right in a futile attempt to reach an imaginary “more conservative” America.
