Sigh, terrible that I don't even need sourcing, I know this quote so well. The cite for this is in the alt but you can also learn about it's context here.

It seems that BlueSky is having the kind of day that feels reminiscent of Ye Olden Interwebs. So if you've been frustrated by all the blank pics and zero context?

Welcome to what alt text was built for. Many thanks to those who've been using it today!

It's really difficult to advocate for yourself when you often are fighting against the uphill battle that the staff don't think you deserve to be there. At least that's generally been my experience.

MAHA's leaders claim they want to end sickness, but they intend to do it by ending chronically ill and disabled people's access to the care that keeps us alive.

The MAHA plan for ending chronic illness is simply ending chronically ill people.🧵

Always nice to have your life threatened and told you don't deserve to exist because the for-profit health industry is using you as a reason to profit more. And discussing eugenics openly should be a career-ender given that everyone knows people in RFK Jr's risk pool.

WaPo says that Warsh “promised independence” and “demonstrated seriousness” during his hearing. When asked who won the 2020 election, he basically hid under the table. Promises of independence from someone so cowed and cowardly are less than meaningless.

My 17-year-old son once drove me in for a severe migraine and, despite my lucidity, they talked exclusively to him until he told them to stop it because he was basically my ride and because I knew what was wrong.

In particular, I suspect a lot of people accustomed to the frequent pain of menstruation won't go in for chest pains to an ER because when you combine these high costs and previous experiences of not being taken seriously...well, we'll stay home and "wait it out" thinking it's heartburn.

Also, how sad is it that a great many of us will make the most money from having our books stolen by Anthropic?

Yeah, if you're not famous already, it's a slog.

Mamas, don't let your kids grow up to be authors.

How different would all this be with UBI?

A heron in front of some reeds by a pond, with its hungry beak open, poking out its hungry tongue. It's facing left, which means it's not trying to eat you. Not yet. But you're next. Oh, so soon, you will be next.

The dinosaurs did not die out. They walk among us. And they are hungry.

Trump DOJ falsely tells court it doesn't want voter data to purge rolls Agreements suggest DOJ is not just reviewing voter rolls, but attempting to identify problems and directing states, under deadline, to remove voters.

🚨BREAKING: The U.S. Department of Justice told a federal court Tuesday that it does not intend to use sensitive voter data it collects to remove people from voter rolls — even as its own agreements with states suggest otherwise. www.democracydocket.com/news-alerts/...

imagining this:

A black and white Sheepadoodle stares quizzically up at the camera while lying on a gray couch. Her right paw is curled up and her left paw is resting straight out. In front of her curled right paw, a small dog toy in the shape of a bongo (Star Wars vehicle) sits on the couch.

This is the kind of betrayal a nation carries out when its leaders don't believe in the concept of allies and that views promises as something for suckers.

It also makes our armed forces less safe. No nation will ever trust us again. Why should they? We stab our friends in the back.

This has been my last few ER experiences and I think it's drastically impacted my willingness to go into an ER, which is probably dangerous. But, my sympathies... that's an ugly bill.

On 'The Pitt' Season 2's Finale: The Story Owes You Nothing When we're too obsessed with plot and not obsessed enough with story, we risk losing whatever substance mass-produced media has left.

The wild reaction and incessant fan demands surrounding THE PITT Season 2 got me riled up, so I decided to take to @popheist.com and use this particular fandom moment to make a very important point about fiction.

The Story Owes You Nothing.

A photo of the Porta Nigra, a massive Roman city gate in Trier. Constructed of sandstone blocks, featuring two large cylindrical towers with multiple arched windows and passageways. The weathered structure stands prominently in a modern urban setting, surrounded by buildings. Sunlight casts shadows on the stone facade, highlighting its intricate details and imposing presence.

The Porta Nigra in Trier is the best preserved Roman city gate North of the Alps. It was built around 170 AD and converted into a church in the Middle Ages.
The Porta Nigra was restored to its original state in 1804 at Napoleon's behest.

Being able to say no to bad employers would reshape our society for the better.

There would finally be competition for labor.
